Also: Caustic Valley is the hottest map though it isn't listed as such.-- at least in one location.
Terra Therma reduces cooling by 25% and thermal cap by 20%.
Caustic Valley reduces cooling by 15% and thermal cap by 10%.
Tourmaline Desert does the same as Caustic Valley.
The CALDERA of Caustic Valley reduces cooling by 40% and thermal cap by 30%.

Rubelite reduces cooling by 10% and thermal cap by 10%.

Lava zones inside Terra Therma reduce cooling by 60% but heat cap by only 12%.

Where are you getting these numbers? I searched all over the game files for them couple weeks ago. Asked Chris about them and seems he isn't allowed to divulge the details.

I think there should just be a pregame lobby for quickplay like there is for faction play

and you can pick any mech from the mechs you own, after seeing the map and gamemode (which would be randomly selection)

you could also communicate with your team before the match to agree on loadouts and whos going to be the drop commander

but I also think quickplay matches should last longer than 6-8 minutes. the matches are way too short. and it probably wouldnt be worth having a pregame loading screen unless the match length was also extended.

Actually Vitric Forge is the hottest map but that is faction play only.

It is the one I use to test all my builds.

Map variety does seem a bit lacking with the voting system, especially towards the hotter ones. Maybe it should just be 2 or 3 maps to vote for, always of similar temperature conditions?

Although a 2 mech option dropdeck sounds interesting too.

I do like the toastier maps myself, forces me to pay attention and not be such a triggerhappy doofus.

If you mean by fluff, that's pretty useless information.

According to the files, the modifiers are:
Enviromental Cooling: -20%. Thermal cap. -15%.
Enviromental Cooling 2: -40%. Thermal cap 2: -30%.

Huh. Interesting. It has a special layer of extra heat in some set location(s)?
It is STILL colder than Terra Therma.

So it is hotter than Caustic, Tourmaline and Rubelite.
And colder than Terra Therma.

For comparison (remember "reducing" is the same as negative numbers.)

Yes, and those area of higher heat is any place the blue Dwarf star in the sky box can be seen. In short you need to fight in the shade, and there isn't much of it.

That's the thing though.
The higher heat is -40% cooling

But Terra Therma's lava zones are -60% cooling.

I'm not sure how much there is in the way of extra hot zones in Forge, but there's a lot of lava.

Also if it were a map to come up by choice... we'd also never see it.

It's too hard for me to see on Terra Therma, so I always vote against it. Too dark.

It's easier to see than on the old Terra, and not all maps are supposed to be easy to see.

@ Koni, Khobi's selecting a mech idea I dislike, and it was P.G.I trying to appease both those that wanted to cherry pick your mech to suit the map, and those that said suck it up snow flake, and L2P on maps your mechs not designed for, that led to map voting.

It was a compromise, a very poorly chosen one.

@Bishop I've had my monthly rage at something I think is stupid, and after it I thought why ? I hardly play anymore, and it's just not worth investing emotion at a game that has slowly become worse and worse, since the Kodiak arrived.

Slightly off track but answering this got me thinking, what would get me enthusiastic for the game again, my list is about ten items and some of them are mech packs lol.

It's not worth listing them though because Map voting is one of the things P.G.I will never remove, and randoms maps selected mode (like we used to have) is in my top three.

Map voting made the game feel really, really stale.
