Hello Mechwarriors!

I'm thinking of returning to the game after a serious break 3+ years

I feel like so much has changed and I don't even know where to start,

Which mechs to use?
can i still pilot well?
what do i need to focus on learning?
...etc many more questions

Are there any resources/ guides i should look at for a "Get back into the game" type attitude?
Or anyone I should talk to/ anyone willing to reacquaint me with the game?

I used to play pretty heavily, but my computer at the time just got worse and worse so I stopped around the time the clans first got released, and haven't played in forever. I probably sunk at least $300 in the game between beta and when I quit. Now I have a nicer comp, and have become quite disillusioned with the current mainstream games; thought I would give this another go. I look forward to jumping back into the fray with yall!

Welcome back.

Tactics 101
https://mwomercs.com...ics-101-comics/

In-game mouse sensitivity - From 1.0 to somewhere between 0.1-0.3. Even more important if you run with Torso Lock off or toggle it on/off to move first your arm mounted weapons.

What are your total specs of your system?
Control Panel, Power Options, High Performance. Unless it is heat related, this will help prevent CPU from throttling down.

If using Nvidia GPU, Nvidia UI, setup a profile for MWO. Power Management Mode - change from adaptive to Max Performance. Makes sure Nvidia GPU is being used.

Concentrate on heavies/mediums first. Lights not very forgiving when hit and assaults tend to become primary targets while heavies/mediums have enough armor to weather hits while fast enough to move around.

Welcome back,

Which mech to use if mostly up to you and depends on what you like are good at.

If you want some help, do not hesitate to bug me in game (almost every night, PST time zone), also look a bit lower for the post from BloodEagle about finding a mentor (funny name but good guy). This will point you toward a discord channel with lot of not scary ppl.

Shoot straight

T.

Hey guys,

Thank you for the responses,

My computer is unfortunately the Apple Mac desktop 5k resolution running boot camp for windows. Which isn’t a perfect computer but a massive step up from my old laptop I used to run the game on. Had to find a mid ground with the Wifey on a computer.
I’d love to get in a hat with someone who knows what they are doing! Thanks for the tips.

Hello Mechwarriors!

I feel like so much has changed and I don't even know where to start,

1) Which mechs to use?
2) can i still pilot well?
3) what do i need to focus on learning?
...etc many more questions

1) every Mech is viable, but of course some are better than others, which Mech is best totaly depends on your requirements, which will be shaped by your playstyle and preferances, give us more info about what you want and we can recomend Mechs which fit your requirements

2) play a few games and find out

3) will depend on what you discover with 2

when you know what other questions you need answered come back here and ask.

major things to look out for that have changed in the last few years:

Skill Tree, it is now a legitimate tree, each Mech can use 91 nodes at a tme out of about 250-300 total skill nodes.
you no longer have to purchase multiple Mechs to fully unlock the tree
modules have been rolled into the tree
the tree is now per Mech not per varient, so if you own 2 Jagermech JM6-DD you have to skill them individualy
you would have received a refund for any skills, modules and consumables you had, any spent XP was refunded as Skillpoints which you can spend on that varient for Mech skills or for modules as GSP which you can spend on any chassis

larger engines no longer affect agility

Faction play has evolved significantly

lots of new Mech

Cival War era tech, lots of new weapons and equipment for both IS and Clans

most Maps have ether been redeisgned or upgraded to include distructable terain and a time of day cycle, including morning including sunrise, day, afternoon including sunset and night.

Decal system, there are now hundreds of purchasable decals (single MC purchase unlocks a specific decal for all Mechs) and you can apply (if I remember correctly up-to) 6 to a Mech

I think that is all the big stuff but there are lots of small things
