As most are aware if you log on and play just one match on Dec. 27th you'll get quite a few goodies including two hero mechs. These heroes are a brand new Roughneck hero and a totally different Sun Spider hero that is not part of the SSpider pack.

I think if I was PGI I would have given them a little more boatability and a little less “a couple of every weapon type hardpoints that most terrible mechs in the game have in common”.

I presume the goal here is to give folks a taste of these two unique PGI creations so as to encourage the customers to buy actual packs of said creations. If the variants that they give away are truly bad or even just meh, then less folks will be encouraged to spend real money for the others. On the other hand they need to avoid making them truly superior, since if they are so, folks won’t bother with the others since they will have one of the best variants for free.

Tough road to walk, but I think these load outs suggest they erred on the side of meh a bit too much imo. We shall see.

While not crazy amazing, that LT on the SNS is unique. That's about as much as we can ask for.

The Roughneck, while mixed like most other variants, does have one extra hardpoint to play with.

Splatneck with UAC20/LB20X and 3 SRM6s (or two SRM6+As and a SRM4+A?) will probably be fun.

I'm getting the Sun Spider standard pack, so I can at least swap out some of the hero's weirder omnipods. I am vaguely confident this was the whole point.

I mean, not that you couldn't do it already, but that is likely going to be one of the primary builds for the new hero. I can't imagine much beyond "big ballistic in right shoulder, lots of missiles in the other torsos" actually working for this mech.

The Roughneck is weird and the Spider is virtually useless without mechpack pods, but heroes are heroes. I'll take'em!

Roughneck might be fun to build with, not as sure with the Sun Spider, at first blush, but hey, free Heroes? Can't see any reason to complain, seriously. Heck Sun Spider hero might replace my EBJ as my twin UAC10 platform, especially if the paintjob is cool. And Cbill bonus always welcome.

Not quite sure how any Clan heavy with 85 kph speed and twin UAC10 potential is useless, but to each their own.

But that would not be the way of the IntraWebz, and definitely not the way of this IP, as history continues to demonstrate.

It's OBVIOUSLY ulterior motives, and gosh they couldn't even bother to give us free Tier 1 Uber MetaMechs, yo! What's up with that! And How dare an Omni not be optimized, when you know, in a couple months all the standard pods will be available for Cbills......

Best youll get is lb10x + erll or uac10 + erppc

youre the one claiming ulterior motives, i claim laziness.
2 variants slapped together from some old concept they tried while making the mechs which do nothing that base variants cant already do.

I expect heroes to actually bring something unique otherwise their existence is pretty much pointless like warhawk hero, havent seen even one...theres a reason why misery is most popular stalker even if not the best one.

Might aswell give standard legacy variants with 30% cbill bonus and theyll be as or more effective than those.

As for those claiming its a gift and you cant complain because of that, learn some manners before you actually bring gift to someone...
