You can tell the weapon's effective range by the color it appears in your HUD. If it's name/stats/ammo count is black, that means the weapon is out (or under) effective range.

(And remember, PPC's under minimum range may do no damage, but they still cancel out ECM on a hit.)

Ah, well PPC's do, its listed in their description and on the damage graph at the bottom. But LRM's and Rocket Launchers don't, they just show it on the graph.

But yeah, i see your point. That should be a little more explicit for new players.

No, I think he means in game. would be helpful, especially to new guys.

I have seen pilots shoot small lasers at targets 800m away then complain they do no damage. Hit reg must be screwed.
I have seen pilots launch SRMs at targets 600 to 700m. same result.

Many PPC shots under 90m and wonder why no damage. (not wondered about the damage but have shot reg PPC @ 80 to 89m by accident in the heat of battle only to force my heat scale up then said to myself "duh")

So I agree - ranges on the read out in game would be helpful (especially since the skill tree can cahnge the 'standard ranges'.

I've never paid attention to this because I don't use those weapons - do they stay un-highlighted in the weapons display (bottom right) if you aim at something under-range like they do for out-of-range?
