Kind of the standard, isn't it? The UAC/2 Dragon really doesn't have much swing to it - Put in your guns, your ammo, then decide how fast you'd like to go and pick STD, LFE, or, God help you, XL.

EDIT: Kind of surprised the legs are stripped though.

What I want to know is how he managed all those keys. I can't manage steering the mech while also holding control for mouse look.

I'm not sure why he picked a STD engine instead of an LFE. 67 kph is abysmal for a heavy (especially when you're only 60 tons) unless you've got assault levels of firepower like a Night Gyr.

to use the one side torso as a shield

the whole trick is to use free look to partially clip your arm inside the dragon's side torso and leg to protect the arm. and then you use the opposite arm and side torso as a shield.

the 250 STD lets you maintain a faster speed than if you used a 285 LFE and lost a side torso. you also dont suffer the heat penalties.

its kindve exploitative since the arm is partially clipped inside the mech. hopefully PGI will fix this one day. but probably not lol

Can't you do that with an LFE?

you can but when the side torso pops youre suffering speed loss and heat penalties

three uac2 isnt exactly running cool so avoiding the heat penalties makes sense, since youre relying entirely on internal heatsinks for cooling

and if you lose the side torso on the LFE, the speed penalty is gonna make you go slower than if you had a 250 STD

the entire build is based around protecting the one arm with a combination of clipping exploit and deadzoning.

Ammo is on the wrong side. If it blows up you have no weapons. Ammo in head slot is pretty safe.

He can't put the ammo in the shield left side, but I do think that 2 tons in the CT would've been safe since the ammo would be expended (CT ammo is prioritized first) long before his CT armor would get opened up.

the ammo is on the right side, because the left side is used as a shield. you want the left side to take all the hits to abuse the 50% damage reduction from damage transfer

you probably could stick ammo in the head/CT though, since that gets used up first.

niche mech with a niche loadout that can only work well doing a niche role in a specialised and coordinated team. I cant wait to see all the noobs on qp run it... They might as well throw lrm.

Actually dayleet mine is nearly the same, except I run a light engine and have two medium lasers. Doing 500+ on average.

Thats also how you justify pure lrm boat. By saying things like "i just did 500damage in it".

Most of the comp guys are moving at slower speeds anyway, so the extra speed you gain from swapping to LFE doesn't matter since they work as a group anyway. If you're going faster than the assaults and you're not a designated harasser light mech then its wasted speed. Besides, Proton seems to usually be the guy on overwatch duty, there's not much moving he has to do once he gets into position.

You can assign a mouse button to free look. Or just practice. I've done the same when I've blown a ST and my remaining weapons are in my arm. Turn torso sideways and slew the arm forward. It works really well with Marauders or other torpedo-shaped mechs with lower arm actuators

yep its been around since closed beta

apparently deadzoning mechs is a new concept for some people though

Wayyyy to much ammo for the 8v8 format of comp games. Could have dropped a ton and stuck a RL15 into the CT.
