If by porting you mean recreating. Then maybe. Perhaps using MW5 as a stepping stone. Since they've already created the mechanics we come to expect from a Mechwarrior game. They'd have to introduce a full mechlab. Don't think people would be cool with an MWO with no mechlab. Though I wonder if they'll have to invest more into netcode development. I've heard unreal 4 isn't very good when it comes to netcode.

Even if it can. I dont think PGI will want to waste another year or so making it for MWO when they can use the time to do something else..

smh.....

It's certainly the logical next step if they have the capital, gets a renewal of the MW license and wants to keep MWO going long term. I suspect PGI doesn't know enough themselves yet to make that decision, so it would be silly to expect them to sy anything about it inside 2018

I would settle for a game engine that allows for smooth game play with half decent graphics. MWO now has worse performance and frame rate for me than it did two years ago (didn't play for last couple years). Despite using a new computer the game has become almost unplayable even with all graphics at minimum levels so it looks like a game from the early 2000s. Used to run fine on my old laptop and looked great. Possibly because my new 2017 PC is an AMD with Radeon GPU whereas my old one was an Intel from 2011? Fix the damn engine PGI, it should run equally well on either of the two main CPU or GPU brands, a borderline 20 FPS dropping to 2.5 FPS is not acceptable.

And yes I know a newer year doesn't necessarily mean a better PC I just didn't want to start listing technical specs.

What are the specs of the old and new machines?

Because that would be like creating an entirely new game, which would be great, but probably won't be worth it for PGI financially.

What would be amazingly fun is applying that PVE AI to the Faction War mode in MWO and making a PVE version of FW.

PLayers get their standard 12 mechs, AI get 24 at once, plus turret defenses and everything else. IN addition, throw some Radar arrays in there for us toeither capture or destroy, and some more gun turrets and stuff, with more turret controls.

That would be fun. Same rules as PVP FW just vs AI, but do make the AI miss some, the ones in the training ground basically never do. It wouldnt be nothin' but a thing to add some movement to the Training ground AI, reduce the accuracy and make it a thing.

The question is whether or not the code would be any better on the new engine out of the box. They have had 5 years with this code and they ain't there yet. What makes you think they can get there starting from scratch?

Well, I wish they consider it.

I played MW5 at mechcon... honestly, the game play was solid... It was F*cking amazing actually.

Not entirely true

The models would be engine ready, and they'd have experience in the engine
Not to mention, they'd need a multiplayer component for the Coop regardless

There will be an MWO2, it would be silly not to.
Half the work is already done

Just don't expect much beyond an Arena shooter.

And the last sentence is the true problem

because it would take time.

it probably WILL happen, but it'll take a couple of years, minimum.

it was, and still is though on the back burner,
Russ did say during one of the townhalls changing over to Unreal would take 6months of work,
in this case he stated that that would be roughly 6months of no content or he would have a second team work on the port,

It would make no sense to keep making content durring that time, unless they were just making new content for the new engine. It would be an huge waste of time for the devs to work on anything but the port, as anything done in that time would need to be re-done anyway.

The only thing they could do really is to add to the team size, to reduce the amount of time it would take to make said port..

OR

make new content with the team, to release the new engine, replays ect,, along with something new with said new engine, which wouldn't be a bad idea..

that said, I think i could go 6-9 months with nothing new, if they did add the new engine, and released it with some new maps for example. I'd like to think that next years mech con, would be New engine coming for summer! that would be great!

Same here to be honest if they were going to upgrade the game I could go without another new mech.
So long as it's after they release the Fafnir. /Sarcasm

It would be cool if they could leverage MW5's procedural map generation system for multiplayer.
