Making event challenges that "all you have to do is play"...

It should be a challenge, not a participation trophy.

PS I love free, crap, but make me earn it, its means nothing to get it by default.
I you're going to do that, just inject it directly.

Edit: wasn't directed to holidays

No.

There's a place for challenge events. What are essentially holiday dailies is not the place.

These easy, single day events are meant to get people to log into the game and play, and hopefully spend some real money on it.

Leave the challenging stuff for tournament or leader board style events.

You'd be surprised for how many people a match score of 150 is a challenge.

If you want to challenge yourself, do the faction 250 score in scouting.

theres people that cant even get 250 in invasion mode, its sad, but I saw it last event

they really should just make it 200 for both quickplay and invasion mode, and keep it 250 for scout mode.

150 is too easy and leads to people who one and done then just quit for the next match... it should be 200 so people in QP try harder.

In this case, participation trophies literally help everyone, since the rewards are ingame resources.

They are, quite literally, participation trophies for those that chose to play on whatever night they chose to play on. ***** about the lack of tournaments that require effort. Don't ***** about free holiday stuff because they decided not to run the tournaments anymore.

my concern is that if they make it too easy it adversely affects the quality of the game

like 150 match score for quickplay... people just run at an enemy, hold down fire, kill them and die themselves, then quit and repeat in a different mech. I saw it happen last event.

You sound like you never played a game in the solo queue when an event wasn't running.

You want a challenge? Get 100 QP bags in a SDR 5V with 2 small lasers.

Get 100 FP bags with a minimum tonnage drop deck solo.

Accessibility high events > high skill requirement events

As a company, it would be best if they pissed off the least amount of people. There are very few high skill players compared to the amount of low skill players.

The worst thing they've done so far is Victory for Victors or whatever it was called. Get a kill, get an assist, get a win, stay alive. I have my Victor but a lot of people don't.

I'd rather everyone have a good time and get something than grind my *** off in difficult challenges that very few people accomplish.

I think you're seeing a problem that isn't their because of your own bias against how easy the event is. 90% of the games I played in the last 5 years have had one or two people who run head first into the enemy, die, and disconnect. Even if events magnified this the bottom line is that people are going to do this either way.

I'd love for you to prove that 150 is adversely affecting solo queue and I'd love to see analysis that shows that upping it up 50 points would have great gains in participation.

More LRMs =/= More suicides

Have you tried to suicide in a light mech and still get 150 match score?

I see people try their hardest to survive and still have trouble breaking 100 match score.

When you lose

170 damage + 2 assists is only 109 match score.

230 damage + 1 kill + 2 assists is 144 match score.

You get more match score for winning I presume.

This is a quick look through my screen shots and finding people with more damage than a quick suicide and less match score than needed.

Just for reference to show you where I'm getting the numbers.

I'd be inclined to agree with you. But the player base has gotten so small and the grind is annoying. I don't think it helps to alienate the casuals. As I've become one of those casuals I definitely prefer events I can get something out of without over committing my time.

I figure that participation trophy trope is so over done and over used it is a dead meme at this point.

I earned many trophies as a kid, I won free throw competitions and was the only one to get a trophy. I can understand the value of earning something difficult.

I also received a few participation trophies. Had an entire season where our baseball team didn't win a single match, I was picked for the all-stars while another team was being formed from existing teams, we won both all-star matches. Had the same experience in football in 8th grade, didn't win a single match. Those trophies still mean a lot to me, they're a reminder that I had fun in a world of horrific chaos. That I was a child once and had family that cared enough to drive me to every practice and every game.

The effect for me, of the 'participation trophy' is that it is a reminder of good times. I don't tell people "I got this trophy because I was the best" when it doesn't say MVP on it. I don't dig out the ones that say MVP on them to show people I was skilled.

I'm glad everyone got a trophy. I want them to be reminded of how awesome our time was playing sports together.

People who resent others for getting 'participation trophies' make me sick. How does it affect you in any way? What do you lose when someone else is also able to get something good?

Is it greed?
Is it elitism?
Is it selfishness?

That is what it looks like to me.
