"leagues more survivable" well...8 points of structure...yeah...duh....and pls don't tell me its harder to shoot the side torsos off Marauders. You can't miss them either.

Yes, it is harder to shoot the sides off of a Marauder than a Thanatos. I could spit out of the port hole of a dropship in orbit and hit the Thanatos's side torsos.

I think the problem with the Thanatos is that it has multiple disadvantages, and really only one advantage - ECM (There are other jumping IS heavies). And is ECM really enough of a boost on a mech the size of a barn?

A variant that can run big ballistics with lower actuators; quite a rarity in the IS...and mostly arm weapons I consider to be better because of aiming, especially with MRMs. High Engine Cap on some variants. Above average amount of max JJs.

Yeah...value of ECM is subjective. I can make good use of it on the Thanatos and I consider it to be very valuable, makes flanking and backstabbing people easier. Also keeps your side torsos alive cause enemies don't get target info that easy.

And yeah...if you are not twisting at all, Thanatos is really a death trap. Once you do this, you can roll armor pretty well and then we have the raw base hp of a 75t mech. So it takes some efford to make the Thanatos work compared to the Marauder.

They are both 75t mechs. So there is no difference in tonnage, speed or firepower if you use the same equipment. Try to fit 2xMRM30, 5x mediums, 15DHS, 5JJ and ECM with a 340 light engine on a Marauder. Doesn't work. Comparison failed. Only point you have is "if I don't equip JJs and ECM, I get 6.5t more firepower" which is trivial.

"leagues more survivable" well...8 points of structure...yeah...duh....and pls don't tell me its harder to shoot the side torsos off Marauders. You can't miss them in side profile.

The thanatos cannot run that build either. Not even the hero version, which would have the adequate hardpoints, can do that. No

Bombast already pointed out that the Marauders frontal hitboxes are far better for spreading and diverting damage compared to the Thanatos (which happens to have side torsos as big as the Awesomes). Neither the Marauder nor Thanatos have difficult to hit side torsos from either side. But that is a factor you can mitigate in the Marauder by minimizing the amount of side torso you present to your opponent while spreading damage. The Thanatos will always have one of its torso sections in full, easy to blast view.

And for a Thanatos to run that 340 light engine version, it has to sacrifice most of its heat mitigation, most of its jump jet capability and some of its MRM ammunition. The Marauder missile variant can do the same nonsensical build as well, but still has that extra laser to hold over the Thanatos.

Again, no amount of denial or "just play it like X!" will change the fact that the Thanatos is an under performing, under gunned and poorly balanced chassis.

Not gonna lie.
Those hellspawns are hella annoying to try and kill. Fast too!
