The BT IP is a big deal. Lots of us have fun memories going back 20+ years. On these forums, I saw that there was some other mech-type game called Hawken a few years ago. That was the first I'd heard of it. If I ever heard the name, I probably thought that it was a skateboard game or yet another FPS.

If MW5 succeeds, they would probably call the next MWO "MechWarrior 5: Online"to capitalize on the brand.

And when they do, there would be absolutely no way they wouldn't transfer your account over to the new game. The whales would riot, myself included.

I do agree that it should be a different from MWO, though. The MWO maps and modes would probably be replaced by MW5's procedural mission system, modified for use in PVP. There would also likely be PVE elements as well, as they'd be foolish not to use the AI systems they built for MW5.

I'm curious to see how they'd handle the timeline though.

I don't care how they do it I just want the engine upgrade. From this point the community will increasingly cry for an engine upgrade now that MW5 has a better engine and it a year out.

Since they're using assets from MWO in MW5 how much work is really involved if they took MWO and brought it to Unreal 4?

I doubt they'll ever do it, I doubt MWO will continue after 2020, but I would love if it did.

mech packs are not improvements

more mech packs improves the game as much as more cars improves a dilapidated bridge.

about a year and a half ago Russ was talking about porting MWO to a new engine, he mentioned that the version of Cryengine MWO uses has been massively modified to the point that there would not be much less work to port to a newer version of cryengine than to a whole new engine. Then about 6 months later they announced MW5.
I think they are doing at least half the work with making MW5 so after that is released they can put the rest of the work into the MWO 1.5 conversion.

I much prefer the 1.5 label as that is much more accurate based on Russ was talking about last year. When the engine upgrade/swap investigation was announced the plan was to transfer MWO to the new/upgraded engine to give it another 4+ years of life, not make a whole new game.

Then they could very well be still on that roadmap.

Why UE4 though. It could very well be CE5 or the MW5 engine.
