Hi guys,

So far I am really really comfortable with Laser Vomit, especially with its pinpoint accuracy.

For the upcoming c-bills sale I plan to get around 3 mechs, or maybe 4.

So far I will be getting the MAD-IIC and go for Laser Vomit build.

What other variants are good for Laser Vomit? Prefer Clan Mechs for now.

I am looking at TBR (which variant though?), Stormcrow, or maybe even the HBK-IIC? Since I also love ECM, I can even consider Shadow Cat. Posted Image Also there is the EBJ.

Open to suggestions. Posted Image So far I have almost 100m C-Bills, and have been using my favorite HBR-Prime like forever. Posted Image

p/s: Don't mind throwing in an IS mech that is good in laser builds as well.

MAD-IIC, Hellbringer, ebon jag, and hunchback IIC, are the best laser vom. Supernova, stromcrow, and TBR are good too.

Oh I forgot Supernova too!
Ok, will keep an eye on all these mechs. For the TBR & EBJ though, which variant should I go for?

Ok, this is the list:

Viper
Cyclops (And Hero)
Night Gyr (And Hero)
Huntsman (And Hero)
Linebacker (And Hero)
Marauder IIC (And Hero)
Bushwacker (And Hero)
Super Nova (And Hero)
Assassin (And Hero)
Roughneck (And Hero)
Javalin (And Hero)
Uziel (And Hero)
Cougar (And Hero)

Looks like I am definitely getting the MAD-IIC, should I get other variants though?

Probably the Supernova and Linebacker as well.

Should I get the Bushwhacker?

In the medium category i like the HBK IIC-A most.
High mounts, no fixed equipment and JJ allow for laser builds with lots of DHS and poptart-capability.
My favorite build are 6 Mediums with 255XL, full JJ and 25 DHS. You can dish out those 42pts alphas for ages.

You can of cause add one or even two Heavy Large lasers into the mix by sacrificing DHS or JJ but i think it's too hot and makes more sense on assaults like the MAD-IIC or Supernova which can still carry enough DHS.

The Stormcrow is nice too but i would not use it for traditional laser-vomit, HBK can do this better. This mech rather wants you to get close and personal to bring most of it's 13 energy hardpoints into account. Small lasers are nice on this just like the Nova.

Shadow cat is great too, but no laser vomit here because it's lacking hardpoints. However two large energy weapons and 6 MGs can work very well in any stage of a match.

On the Ebon Jaguar i don't like the wide arms, you need to be very careful to not cause team damage if you put weapons in there.

My favorite laser-heavy is the HBR which you already own.

On IS side the Battlemaster is the go-to laser-vomit mech. You can do anything from traditional laser-vomit to 5x Large Pulse Lasers. Which variant you pick is dependent on how many energy-hardpoints you prefer and the quirks, you can make most variants work. The 2C for example is interesting for the 5x Large Pulse build because you can put all lasers in the torso which are protected by massive structure quirks.

Thanks for the great insight. Based on the C-Bills sales, I am looking at MAD-IIC and the Supernova. For Supernova which variant should I go for? They all seem to build for Laser Vomit.

I think it depends on your preferences and the exact build you want. In the SNV-C you can put the heavy large lasers in the high-mounted side-torsos where they are save from arm losses and allow for decent hill-peek damage.

In the SNV-1 however you can track your target much better because everything is in the arms and have vastly improved chances to hit a light mech doing the dance of death around you. It also got some decent structure quirks.

I would pick one of those. Or both. Posted Image

The Bushwacker is a great mech too because of great survivability, but it lacks energy hardpoints for proper laser-vomit. It's best with missiles and ballistics and won't dissapoint you in those roles.

most of what you are mentioning are heavy and assualt Mechs but if you are after fast Clan laser builds the Arctic Cheetah and Viper are both worth a look, the ACH offers ECM with 6E hardpoints (or 7 if you forgo ECM), and the Viper offers up to 8 E hardpoints for cbills or upto 10 if you buy the Medusa Hero mech

But you can't really cool down well using laser vomit (6 ERML + 2 HLL) on those mechs. Neither can even carry the full build either.

Also I'd vote on the Hellbringer. It comes with ECM and can run the build better than any of the other clan heavy mechs due to the free space inside of the mech allowing for more heatsinks than the Ebon Jaguar can fit while having higher mounts than the Timber Wolf.

If you do go for the Timber Wolf then get the one with the energy point in the center torso, if you go with the Ebon Jaguar all of them are the same since they can swap the hardpoints in each section with those of another variant's and the CT is the same on all of them (CT cannot be swapped)

I have the HBR already. And unfortunately right now TBR and EBJ are not on sale. :(

Yeah if I grab the BSW it will be my way to start training myself on missiles & ballistics, but which variant though.

They are all interesting, again it comes down to your preferences in hardpoints and quirks.

The P1 makes a badass SRM-boat with it's 6 missile hardpoints, and the other ones except the S2 can carry two medium-sized autocannons which are located very close to each other for great convergence. It's one of the best mechs for dual Rotary 5 ACs. For brawling the X2 stands out with it's increased mobility, i use it in FP scouting where brawling happens almost every match.

If i had to pick two variants i would choose the P1 and the X2 for their uniqueness. When owning both you can do a lot of interesting Bushwacker builds.

Thanks. So far I have gotten the MAD-IIC, yet to tinker with it. Thinking of what to buy next, probably only 2 more mechs.

SNV and Linebacker?

Then BSW if my c-bills are enough?

If you already own the MAD-IIC i think the Supernova will not add much in terms of laser-vomit while being MUCH slower because of it's engine cap (i run my Marauder with XL375 and i think it's crucial for getting into good positions).

The Supernova is more interesting for large laser builds which comp players use because they need the additional 5t the mech provides compared to the Marauder. If you want to go that route, then buy the Supernova. Otherwise Linebacker and Bushwacker will give you much more variety in gameplay while being much cheaper to buy.

I don't think that you need two laser-vomit mechs in the same weight-class which probably both will play very similar. Posted Image

I forget, is the Nova still viable for laser vomit builds? Or not since the small laser, uh, adjustments?

Thanks! I think you're right. I'll go for the LBK-Prime and BSW-P1. Posted Image

For LBK-Prime, Laser Vomit is viable right? I am not really comfortable with ER PPCs, keep missing them. Posted Image

I think Nova is still good a laser vomit mech, but I feel its very squishy.

Nova ist still viable, small lasers have not been nerfed as hard as the pulse ones. I see them regularly in FP scouting and they still kill very fast if ignored. But as Zh0u wrote, they are not the tankiest mechs, when playing one you want to avoid getting focused and rather attack from the side or rear while your target is busy fighting another mech.

You can do full laser vomit (2 heavy larges + 6 mediums) but it will run very hot because you can't equip much DHS so you probably won't do as much damage as with other mechs like the MAD-IIC.

You can try to utilize it's speed to get into people's backs where a single alpha can kill or at least cripple most mechs so you don't need fo fire often to be effective. But it's not easy to play this way, you are still too slow to roam behind enemy lines and therefore need to wait for an enemy which is busy fighting and not protected too much by his teammates to pull his off.

Most players equip lighter weapons like small lasers and srms and play it as a brawler, maybe you can try this too. 6 medium lasers with 25 DHS work well too because the speed allows you to flank and peek quite well. I had quite some fun with this build.

Sorry, I was not aware Laser Vomit referred to that specific loadout, I was under the impression it was just 6+ lasers of at least 2 diferant types, and as the term has been arround at least since Clans were released it cannot have initialy referred to that loadout.

This is true, but it's designed as an ambush mech as someone else pointed out. Depending on what other mechs you have, this kind of difference may be nice to mix it up - though of course everyone will always have their main preference Posted Image

I wouldn't ignore the lunchbackers either. They do laser vom well too, even if the lasers they mount might be smaller. It's stupid to insist on a particular weapons loadout if heat prevents you from using it; learning heat management and firing discipline are necessary skills. The LBKs don't have a large amount of tonnage to split between weapons and dhs. But they have ample hardpoints.

what they WILL do is teach you to fit your play to a mech, rather than try to shoe horn every mech into a particular play style. And they will teach you mobility and battlefield awareness, flanking, hit and run.

Assuming you use them as intended, and well.

i would have defined any vomit build as "as many of a given weapon type as you can fit on there" hehe.

Thanks again for your advice on my other thread. I think I have done enough shopping for now. 4 new mechs can keep me busy for quite some time.
