The last match really was too much for me. 3 x 1 CERPPC, SRM4, 3 CERSL point blank on the mech's CT...it showed bright yellow and his arm (his arm?! How the heck should I have hit the arm?!?!) was orange.
The hitboxes remind me of the former infamous ACH or SPD boxes.
To make things worse, that mech even has armour quirks...
Going for the legs is also not always a solution because the Assassin will facehug you.

It is not a niche. They make the light mechs completely obsolete.

the only reliable way to kill them is to go for those skinny legs, like don't even bother at all shooting for the torso, only some of the damage will register and mostly to the arms it's a waste of heat/ammo
I don't think I've ever lost a side torso in an assassin before losing an arm

aiming for its legs doesnt solve the problem either, when it jumpjets its leg hitboxes get deformed and arnt even in the legs anymore
shooting its crotch is the best way to guarantee a hit, but even that takes forever to kill them

the wacker and crab are quite tough, but I don't think there are any hitreg problems like with assassins and commandos. When I shoot a component on a bushwacker the damage actually registers on that component

Yep, an assassin that keeps moving is insanely hard to kill. And the good pilots are notorious for NOT overheating and letting you kill them. =)
It is the harasser of choice these days for IS.

I believe MischiefSC did a test on the assassin's hitboxes while its jumping and said the torso hitboxes virtually disappear while jumping (they become arm hitboxes while airborne). I can't find the thread and might not be 100% accurately representing his results, but thats the gist of it.

If I hesitate for a second or peak a hill or around a structure it is easy to get one shot.
I've also killed a fair amount of them with my new CP 10 Q. They really go down fast in the face of 86 damage.

Yes.
So the legs and arms are not in position while jumping. From dead on a shot at the thigh is a clean miss most the time - I think the leg angles or hangs ahead of the hitboxes. It's off by almost the legs thickness.
Arm/torso is worse. Arms are suddenly covering 1/2 the st. Like 1/2 the ST is suddenly arm as far as hitreg is concerned, from the dront.

well it's a mech that due to hitreg problems allows you to literally do assassinations: you can pick out a hurt mech, run straight through the enemy team, take out a hurt mech, and get out of there with just a little armour down, mostly on the shield arms. This works like 90% of the time unless you're facing many top players who can cut a leg off. Many assassins working together present a hilariously difficult challenge if your team is not in mechs specifically setup for it. It does a lot for its weight

Don't get me wrong I'm right there with you, as I have done that exact thing too many times to count, hence my prior post.
As much as I dig the ASN, can't help but feel something is amiss....
