Salvage Mini Game (Self Imposed)

I was bored and thought to myself... we don't salvage weapons off the battlefield, why not make a mini game of it?

Here's how this works:
1. If you got a salvage bonus from a mission that you were victorious in, record the total amount of cbills you received (round to thousands).
2. Roll on a random number generator (like this one: https://www.random.org/) (259 values possible currently)
3. Look up the result on the table below
4. If the result costs less than the amount of cbills you got and you have a mech that allows you to purchase it then buy it

To look up clan equipment, generally look for a mech with artemis allowed and all 3 types of hardpoints (like the ?) and for inner sphere the same deal (like the ?)

when you kill someone you should just be able to steal their stuff lol. I wish PGI put that into faction warfare. Actual logistics and salvage. And IS being able to salvage clan mechs and clan tech over time. maybe even let clans scuttle their downed mechs to prevent IS from capturing them.

a minigame is too much effort to do what shoulve been included in the game from the start :\

Not really. Just because you kill someone doesn't mean your team won. If you cannot secure the battlefield no salvage.

ok if you kill someone, and win, and they didnt get a chance to blow it up, you get to steal their stuff :P

I don't know why you'd need a random table. Just take salvage from mech components that weren't destroyed in the match.

No salvage mechanic feels like such a missed mechanic in this game. At this point though it's whatever. Just wait for MW5.

what makes you think MW5 will get right what MWO failed to :P

and if PGI knows MWO not having those things is a problem, enough to add them to MW5, why havent they added them to MWO?

EDIT:
Also two things, firstly going to add another condition [You must have received a salvage bonus from the mission, which means you lived and won (I think)].

A possible implementation in the game could be the option to buy a randomly selected piece of a equipment at 90% market price from your winnings if you got a salvage bonus.

Because it doesn't have the hindrance of being a free to play online pvp game. MW5 will be about managing your unit, so salvage will have to play a key role in the game.

In addition to MechaBattlers comment;
MWO didn’t fail in its salvage mechanic because it has never and was never going to be a feature in the game.

I ask this…
How would you determine, divide, and balance salvage off of a single destroyed mech from a QP match? I’d like to hear your idea. After considering mech chassis, how it was destroyed and surviving components (including armor because armor is valid salvage) you have to look into right of claim based on Killing blow? HAH! Right.. I can see how that would go already! Oh wait, then you could potentially have up to TWELVE ASSITING MECHS on one salvageable target. You wouldn’t be able to allow player to ‘pick’ their salvaged parts based on whatever metric you choose. You’d spend as much time in the salvage screen as you would the mech bay. So now you’re assigning salvage to the player with the most generic measurable metric as “damage done” and odds are (seeing how this crowd is) the assigned salvage will be nothing useful short of selling it anyway.

BUT WAIT!! THERES MORE!
Now.. NOW.. you have to process, store, and calculate all of this information, in real time, for ALL destroyed mechs in the match, for the end of the match! People have been crying about load times since creation, imagine what calculations like that would do.

12 possible mech destructions.

1 player with the kill, 11 players as potential assists.

Salvage rewards granted on “Damage Done”.

“Salvage Winners” are prioritized for all mechs destroyed.

Salvageable Items are determined from all destroyed mechs.

Salvageable items for each mech are prioritized according to “Metric-X” and assigned to winners.


Those calculations for every mech in a match.. oh wait.. right.. Cant forget FP, multiple all that by FOUR due to multiple drops. Oh and then… this is all happening simultaneously, across all servers, after every single match.

MWO isn’t a Lore based game… and Salvage, the concept, logic, and purpose of it is Lore driven. Why do I need to salvage that PPC off a WarHammer when my WarHammer was insta-repaired at the end of the match? Why do you think we get currency compensation for everything in a match now? Hell next I bet they’ll be rewarding Cbills to us just for walking our mech around the map showing we are actively playing and not AFK.

The only method I can see as being a half-assed effective method of Salvage would be the complete rework of the Loot Chests, which I know, it’s coming, but I mean a loot chest system that isn’t buried behind the micro-transactions of buying keys. Those can exist alongside, but leave them separate with MC item rewards.

Imagine you win match. Everyone receives a Salvage or Bonus crate. No key to open it. You won, you earned it. This Bonus Crate could have basic NON-MC items in it from armor, equipment, weapons to even a whole mech. Totally random based on the current in-game CBill equipment/Mech lists.
Done. Dumbed down, no fuss, and easy. The Bonus Crate system doesn’t have to make LORE sense because the Lore to support logical and correct Salvage doesn’t exist in the game and never will!

Sigh….. I am like way off topic.
Sorry OP... too much effort to play a mini-game like that.

you can still have salvage in a multiplayer game, i dont see how thats a hindrance

Just as I said, make it an option to get a random piece of equipment at a 10% discount (like how it says you can purchase this bonus if you aren't using premium time at the end of a match). Not lore friendly, but it's something.

Also, I admit that I created this thread a bit more for my purposes than anything else, but also to allow others to use it if they wanted.
