Clan mechs COOL FASTER, the heat sinks are more efficient than IS heat sinks. The difference is that IS pilots generally create builds with an alpha that fills 30-40% of the heat bar not 60-70% so there are more alphas coming at you. They are smaller alphas but there are more of them. Clans deliberately bring builds which peak and poke better therefore perform less well in an extended brawl.
If you brought Orion IICs with splat / dakka I am pretty sure you would out brawl the IS but the dogged adherence to the standard meta has produced a distinct lack of imagination or variation.
When this happens the best way of winning is to play to the enemy weaknesses which means pushing for the brawl, the main clan defence at that point is to run away and continue ranged trading or sit there and try to brawl it out. Until the meta changes I doubt game play will change much (the only real change recently has been bringing IS streaks because of ACH and MLX machine gun boats).
Back on topic....
It's the "last 2 hours" mechanic that makes these events pointless, you may as well just turn up on the last day, otherwise all your hard work is likely to be made irrelevant anyway.
Maybe there is some way of adjust the scores based on active player numbers so that the merc unit flip flop has less effect on the outcomes or maybe even locking merc contracts to the duration of the event and adjusting for active player numbers.
Scouting matches should be reduced in impact (divide the number of matches by a weighting factor maybe 4.5 in this case as that is how many times more they were played than invasion).
