Clan mechs COOL FASTER, the heat sinks are more efficient than IS heat sinks. The difference is that IS pilots generally create builds with an alpha that fills 30-40% of the heat bar not 60-70% so there are more alphas coming at you. They are smaller alphas but there are more of them. Clans deliberately bring builds which peak and poke better therefore perform less well in an extended brawl.
If you brought Orion IICs with splat / dakka I am pretty sure you would out brawl the IS but the dogged adherence to the standard meta has produced a distinct lack of imagination or variation.

When this happens the best way of winning is to play to the enemy weaknesses which means pushing for the brawl, the main clan defence at that point is to run away and continue ranged trading or sit there and try to brawl it out. Until the meta changes I doubt game play will change much (the only real change recently has been bringing IS streaks because of ACH and MLX machine gun boats).

Back on topic....

It's the "last 2 hours" mechanic that makes these events pointless, you may as well just turn up on the last day, otherwise all your hard work is likely to be made irrelevant anyway.
Maybe there is some way of adjust the scores based on active player numbers so that the merc unit flip flop has less effect on the outcomes or maybe even locking merc contracts to the duration of the event and adjusting for active player numbers.
Scouting matches should be reduced in impact (divide the number of matches by a weighting factor maybe 4.5 in this case as that is how many times more they were played than invasion).

just implement a basic bar graph with no limit, biggest winning graph over the whole event wins.

Even if the clans smash us all over the park for 5 days straight at least we'll know it and can respect that fact by looking at the graph without limitation.

or use a pile and split it into days, most days won wins, we might know 3 days into the event who wins overall but so be it, offer daily prizes and people will still play for them.

OR offer certain additional planets on certain days, unit tags on offer might keep some parties involved i suppose

yup, events always have been decided in the last hours, back in Phase 1 and 2 People wouldn't even drop until the last hour prior to switch. it sucked donkey balls... a small unit like mine put in hours and hours of work, then 1 hour to cease fire, TCAF would drop in with 2-3 Dropships and claim the planet with numbers. basically the same now
If all you care about is flipping the planet, wait ... then drop in numbers!
Clans still OP tho... I know, my Clan Alt proved it to me. Less trouble, more DMG, higher W/L

Every post might as well be "clanz op" every reason and excuse under the sun people wheel out to "confirm" it. If the clanz were so op, then even teamwork should struggle. Admittedly I only really play QP at the momeoent and the clan stuff I've faced I'm not really scared of to be honest.....
