...somehow. Where the hell do we go to report bugs?

I keep blowing up and my screen says "heat damage", the log says "makenzie71 killed makenzie71", and I get hit with a suicide. This last time my heat bar was only a little over 50%. This is the sixth or seventh time it's happened in the last couple of weeks.

Server is keeping track of your heat but the graphical UI is not reflecting it, even though BBetty is announcing it too. It has become more evident in the last few months. Possible packet loss, as well as there not being any code in place to verify UI positioning.

So if you are being hit with it often, do not hit heat override and submit your bug report. May want to try recording and submitting evidence, with timestamps/etc.

Include your location and the server you are on when it happens.

Even when override is on and you alpha non-stop, I don't think you're suppose to explode if your only at about 50% of your heat bar. You don't explode until you're at 100%.

I need to get OBS setup on this machine. That sounds exactly like what's happening (I don't remember hearing BB say anything about my heat, but this is always in the midst of "incoming missiles" and "critical damage" so maybe I'm missing it).

How do I submit a ticket?

You'd have to provide a video for us to make a solid interpretation, but best guess, you were torn up already, alphad, and then there first tick of heat damage killed you before your local client could catch up.

Oddly, this correlates with some recent happenings for me as well. I've had several instances of death by overheat with my Overide off (I rarely use overide myself) in the last week or so too. Last glance at my heat scale (last particular instance) showed reducing heat from about 3/4's to full (cycling down off of a series of shots) , and the next salvo I fired... popped me like a sealed container of premade biscuits left in the sun all day. I just sat there staring at my screen going...wtf?!? Suicide??

I generally don't don't take videos of my games because I play at 5760x1080 so I have no video proof, but if it happens again I'll probably scale down to a single screen and start recording games again to see if I can find a trigger...

I had a similar thing happen, and did happen to have video capture running.

Basically my 'mech first overheat-shutdown while heat gauge was only showing ~70%. I hit override, and 'mech started to disintegrate.

So yeah, what OP's describing is a thing. However personally, I haven't had this happen again.

Spoiler

Interesting.

Wonder if OP had a LAMS installed...

Really interesting. I wonder if LAMS kept firing, but wasn't reporting heat from it?

You clearly where taking overheat damage for a while before death, though it clearly showed you ~50-70% heat.

Definitely a bug. I'd absolutely suspect LAMS.

It happened to me last week, and I did not have LAMS installed. Exploded @ around 50% heat. There was no alpha striking prior to it, or anything like that either.

Nope...I don't use AMS. I'm insist on running ridiculous gauss builds and AMS hampers my ammo capacity :D

I'm just relieved that it's something that isn't isolated to only me.

Do you experience massiv but very short lag spikes and huge ping?

Could be that.

Could be that you are well over your heat threshhold but the screen said you arent exceeding your max heat.

I should clarify that this video is from the Civil War 'tech patch day, and I haven't run into this any time later.

Looking at the video, my hunch is that my UI isn't showing all the heat that was building up. The heat looks perhaps too low for a twin-LAMS and the lasers.

It's a bug that can seemingly happen to anybody, at any time, regardless of what mech and equipment you're using. Also, it doesn't matter what happens during the course of a match. Also, it doesn't matter what your connection quality or ping is. It can also occur in training grounds.

Here's my post and findings on the topic.

TL;DR
as far I can tell, the client (your computer, your MWO instance) is calculating heat incorrectly for some reason, but PGI's servers are still doing calculations correctly. This fortunately does not appear to affect the performance of your mech, it merely makes the heat gauge display incorrectly. So if you simply pretend the heat gauge doesn't exist, then you will be entirely unaffected by this bug. Easier said than done.

I just had this issue on my DireWolf.

I was at 70% and out of no where I overheated. Shut down. Died. While I still had my core components. Pretty much shutdown before I was supposed to and died before I was supposed to. The death cam appeared on me even before my mechs core was destroyed.
