I haven't played in a while (since shortly after the Project Phoenix mechs released, I think) and I'm thinking about returning.
Other than the standard "Follow the herd and try not to suck," what do I need to know?

Lots of new weapons and tech, so it may be worth revisiting old mechs and updating them. The IS Light Fusion Engine has made a lot of different builds more viable as it is more like the clan XL for durability, but not as light.
The skill tree has changed the game a lot. When you add skill points, it is for the specific mech rather than variants. You can master an individual mech rather than requiring three separate variants. Modules have been removed and are now within the skill tree. Take your time, see the skills you want before committing.
Take your time, find a friendly unit and get stuck in.
Oh yeah - welcome back
