Does it shine with the new tech? Or is it out dated? What builds with the new tech have ya'll found to work for you?

Post anything and everything you want to, as I'm curious as to if I should pick it up.

Is it worth it?

Looks like a slightly less durable, higher alpha, jump-jetting alternative to MAD-3R. Mileage may vary which is better.

I'm using 6ERML and an AC20 with a LE engine. I wouldn't call it spectacular, but it can work. It seems to lose both torso's pretty quickly though.

I like it, but that's cause the mech (Marauder as a whole) works for me. I spread damage with it naturally and jump jet allows to drop bad enemy aim suddenly, also great for some vertical movement where it really helps to cover ground faster.
Before new tech I used it with 2LPL + AC20, or 4ML, lately use it with AC20+2SNPPC (simply for trying out new tech). I think on moving on to UAC20 or LBX20 and switching SNPPCs for ERMLL.
SNPPC works well, but mech runs too hot even with all the skill tree taken. 550-800dmg is no problem and plenty ammo left.
I'm thinking more of this approach now. (Otherwise swap UAC for LBX). AMS either this one, or the Laser AMS, gotta test it. Seen lots of various rocket builds lately, that gets annoying. Might be too much ammo, but I haven't tried UAC20 properly to figure that one out. Posted Image

The tonnage seems to work out for std builds, but I just can't shake the notion that an xl would make it able to bring more payload to bear on target quicker.

Would it be a crime againt humanity if I crammed an IS XL in it for more/heavier weapons?

One poster above pointed out that it is squishy, and loses side torsi quickly. YMMV.

Sounds like std deadside builds would work wonders then, mainly due to the relatively decent hit boxes this mech seems to have.

Cool deal, I'll pick em up then, thanks guys for the responses.

Ok, I worked some time on a new build and it works really great, getting close to 1k if the round wasn't a complete mess from the get go and going over 1.1k after every proper brawl three times in a row. I don't even feel that AC20 could be better than LBX20 in this case. The spread on LBX20 isn't that bad as I thought, and there is so much ammo and so low heat produced you can bombard enemies at 300-400m ranges without second thought. Left side is great for shielding with lots of armor and with STD you can drop Left torso with no big deal. It's crazy tanky. I also enjoy how easy it is to cripple those pesky light mechs with a simple LBX shot + ERML shot.

After finally mastering it, i have to say the best build ive come up with for the BH2 is 1HGR, STD300, 6ERML, 1ERSL (you can forego the ERSL or bring a 7th ERML if you split to avoid ghost heat). Then you bring ~4tons of ammo and at least 14 DHS (you may be able to cram in more if you strip some armor and dont bring the 7th laser).

It has its issues, but if you can play around the short range of teh HGR it can put out over 1000 dmg even on maps like polar that would normally not be considered optimal for a weapon that cant do much past 400m. Best part though is the quirks, 15% range to ERMLs puts you on equal fotting to cERMLs in the range depatment, so while you might not be able to outtrade clam mechs past 400m alfa to alfa, you do have the ability to engage targets as far out as 600m with reasonable damage numbers (just try to do it when they arent looking at you cause 30 dmg isnt worth eating 60+ in return).

Standard engine, 4 medium Lasers in the right side and head, two ER smalls in the left arm. AC20 in right torso. Left side is shield side, only use smalls if you have plenty of heat or lose right torso. Twist, twist, twist and you are incredibly tough.

Max out survivability and put in a LFE300 and you have a versatile mech (too many possible builds to list).

Good hunting,

That ballistic mount really does work for lots of things. Everything up to the heavy gauss and LB-20 fits in there with a LFE

Biggest thing for me though is the ERML 15% range, that alone pretty much makes this THE mech to boat ERML/ML since you get to outrange clan trash with them (alfa is still weak but workable without using a big arsed gun).

Its pretty quickly become my best QP solo quenue mech, with MANY MANY 1.2+K dmg games, with 5+ solo kills, and even a bad game is gonna be like at least 500 dmg. Its just that powerful, and the HGR is, despite maybee not being uber-comp meta, one of the strongest IS weapons to come out of the new tech update, just took me a while to really find a mech that can use it and use it well. Yeah i cant trade at 600+m with it, but the ERMLs remain viable at those ranges for early game poke/harass, and once the brawl starts its one mech after another dropping so quickly...
