The TOW (Tube-launched, Optically tracked, Wire-guided) Anti-Tank Missile. Originally the BGM-71, was first designed and used by Uncle Sam in the 21st Century. This destructive weapon would wreck havoc upon enemy installations, armor, APCs, etc. So here we are, 3057, and we are sort-of limited on special types of weaponry. If the TOW missile could've been designed to travel at much higher velocities, and possibly be laser guided, it might have potential with the Inner Sphere. Such weapons could give an advantage, and help slowing the down the massive advance of the Clan invasion. If such a weapon were designed to be mounted on a 'Mech....Oh man...let's just put it at it would be very nice to have.

That's essentially what ATMs are supposed to be...
LRMs are closer to mass-launched M47 Dragon crossed with the FGM-178 Javelin, and SRM/SSRMs are cluster-fire FGM-172 SRAW.

I agree with what you said, all except for ATMs. From In-Game, ATMs seem to be the 'Active Protection System' (created by the US ARMY), or APS. The APS can be seen as either be mounted on the top of the turret on an MBT and takes the shape of a garbage can (as seen in MW), or or it can be mounted on the side of the turret in a different shape. However, I do not believe that they would fire TOW missiles. ATMs must lock on to incoming missiles to destroy them. The TOW is wire-guided, and has no known capability to lock on. As in the name, it must be 'guided', and with incoming missiles moving at a high velocity, scattered, and moving in a peculiar path, the ATM would have a nightmare trying to guide a few TOW missiles to hit 5+ missiles (at the least, many times it's 55+) would be a nightmare. AND, if when the ATM does score hits, it doesn't initiate a large explosion, as our beloved TOW would do. So long story short, the ATM is NOT a TOW. (If it is, MW isn't making the TOW out for what it really is capable of.)
