Can't Max Armor?

I've encountered this a few times now; I'll try to max out a mech's armor - or even just get close to it - and half the time it will just grey out the "Increase Armor" arrow. I'm not sure what's causing it.

I'll explain a bit further. I know that back/front armor is combined (70 FT + 10 RT = 80/80 Max). I know I can't go over my maximum tonnage. I'm referencing the numeral "100/100" value of total/maximum armor in the bottom-right of the Mechlab UI. I've even gone so far as to strip mechs of armor and all equipment and trying that way. Half the time it will work (My Timber Wolf had this problem until I stripped it), half the time it won't. I did that just now with a Warhammer-6R, and I can max everything except for one of the legs, which sits at 0 armor and will not increase despite having 55 more tons available and only 368/434 armor used.

Another thing I've noticed is that I can (continuing the "stripped Warhammer with everything at full armor except for one 0/60 leg" example) begin removing armor from the leg with 60/60 armor, and it won't let me put it back on until I drop it to 0. Then it lets me add armor again, but only to 30/60. If I lower it from 30/60, it won't let me increase it until I go back down to 0/0. Once there, I can bring it to 60/60 again.

I'm inclined to believe this is a bug, but am I just missing something extremely obtuse? Any help is appreciated.

That does sound like a bug. My personal advice is to not use the "remove" equipment /strip mech options. They.... sometimes cause problems.

I never really strip my mech's armor, so I just add and remove as I see fit. As such I have never encountered this bug in over 5 years of playing. Did get a bug once when stripping equipment, and thus never did it again.

I get this even without using the Strip Armor function, and have had it since I started/came back (a week or so ago), before I knew you could strip armor that way.

It first happened on my founder's Catapult, so I thought maybe it was just something to do with old code regarding the founder 'mechs. I've had problems with every 'mech I own or muck with in the store though, so I doubt it. Anyway, I couldn't figure out what was wrong, so I spent an hour Googling it, looking for info. Nothing came up, so I tried poking things on my end. Came across the Strip Armor function, used it, and it started working mostly properly. As mentioned before though, it only works when it feels like it. I start by doing the normal thing - removing tonnage, then trying to modify from there - and if that doesn't work, I strip it and see if it plays along.

I'll add that most of the time it likes to stop at tonnage values in multiples of .50, so it isn't just random numbers. It's all very odd, as well as frustrating.

I've had this several times too. Not sure if I used the strip-mech function or not. For me, pressing the down-arrow for the body-part specific armor until it reached zero let me add armor again.

are you overextending your cash, maybe? I found you can't add any more armour when the change prize exceeds your balance, even if the game told you you can go on with the customising, but can't save the changes.

Edit: Just poked at it some more. You're 100% right, Aidan. it only seems to happen if you don't have enough money for the changes. It doesn't matter what you change, as long as you can't afford it. Once you go over your available money it won't let you add armor anymore, even if you're just testing builds via Mechlab.
