Specifically the KDK
Never tried it but it appears that it would run much hotter than a dakka. Would think dakka would belt out more damage in a shorter time for a big lumbering target.
Have seen KDK's with 4 LPL's and other builds.
Aside from ammo, is their an advantage? Or is it just personal preference?

Laser Boat Assault? Why?

Laservomit is usually quite tedious to play on any platform. You are limited by your heat bar so you need to get a good tempo of dealing damage and backing off throughout the entire match. Assaults can opt to carry more LPLs. While I don't necessarily agree with just a 4 LPL Kodiak (I feel it's undergunned), it depends on the assault in question if it's better for pure vomit, gauss vomit or AC/UAC vomit.
Also note that lasers are easier to deal damage with at long range while dakka needs a lot of lead time to hit moving targets at a distance.

Clan ACs are notoriously inaccurate due to the multiple bullets per round system.
So the only thing left for ppl that don't like PPC and Gauss is lots of Lazors
Also there are KDK variants that are not the KDK-3
And then there is the simple fact a 100T Assault can carry a 400XL reactor with 6 internal extra heatsinks, mount several large and smal energy weapons and still has enough tonnage and space for lots of heatsinks.
A better energy assault is the Battlemaster with 3 LPLs and some medlasers or 5 lpls and less speed....or 5 ER large lasers.
So...yea energy assaults are viable but a bit boring in my eyes.

I'm going to stop you right there... every weapon system in MWO, excluding the LB, SRM, SSRM and LRM's are perfectly 100% accurate, they all go exactly where the cross-hair points. Now that being said, pilots can be low precision with perfectly accurate weapons and miss.

Personal preference in part. I always get good results Pulse Lasers, get good damage for weight and no need to lead your shots (you see it, shoot it. No ducking my shots) You need to practice trigger discipline to manage your heat (I have overheated during crazy brawls, not a good thing) especially on the hotter maps (Who votes for Caustic Valley! Arrrgh! ) but it's very rewarding on mechs with nice alpha potential like the Banshee 3M and the Kodiak 1.
If you prefer Dakka, good for you but I've been pulse lasers from the time I first bought the T-bolt 5SS and wouldn't have it any other way.

The thing that I love about lasers is you aren't ammo dependent. Ammo gets depleted and explodes, except gauss ammo of course. Lasers never run out. Yes they run hotter, but that's the trade off. Learn trigger discipline. While I still overheat, it's generally only for the killing shot. Although sometimes I do miscalculate.

Some of us just prefer lasers. I would rather hold damage on the target briefly than lead or lock onto the target.
The 6-energy-hardpoint Kodiak (with the 2 energy CT hardpoints) should make an awesome laservomit build, but I have not bought it yet. 100 tons, install jump jets, remove endo, fill the whole damn thing with double heat sinks - and then boat pulse lasers!

The Kodiak is good for all sorts of builds, that everyone seems to prefer AC10s maybe with 5s to me seems silly, for example the Spirit Bear is a reincarnated hyperactive Atlas, while the base model has all types of hardpoints including 9 E hardpoints.
with regards to other assualts I play Battlemasters as pure laser builds, diferant weapon loadouts and combos work well for diferant Mechs.
I do vote for Caustic quite frequently as I rarely see it,
I usualy vote for whatever Map I have been on least recently at about 5 seconds left on the countdown to give other members of the group the chance to request a map, if I get a request I choose that) (unless Alpine is an option, I think I have played on that map once this year with 2-3 hours of drops 2-3 times a week).
based on frequency of seeing maps I would usualy vote in something like this order, Alpine, Terra, Caustic, Forrest, Bog, Canyon, Torumoline, Mining, HPG, Crimson, River, Frozen, Polar, Grimm (unless domination looks likely to win in which case I would never vote Frozen or Grimm)

clam laserboat assaults is better to get you a MAD IIC. an 85 t assault with max engine (76 kph), 27 dhs, 2hll 6cerml. drive it like a heavy, oppurtunistic alpha vomiting that CAN take a hit or ten.

Laser Vomit and UAC or LBX work well together. When UAC's jam it is great to have 3 ERMLs and an ERLL or LPL to use.
