I am not ENTIRELY sure what TAG lasers are for, but I know they paint targets for lock ons, similar to the laser painting in BF4. I have 3 missile hardpoints on my LT.

TAG improves missile accuracy and reduces lock on times. They're generally used with LRMs and SSRMs.

They serve very little purpose otherwise. I would not put one on a King Crab - It should not be carrying lock-on missiles.

Tag is for decreasing lock times and countering ECM. There's really no reason to take it on a King Crab, because you should be focused on big ballistics + SRMs (maybe MRMs if you like using them).

Alright. MRM's are the ones that shoot like SRM's, right?

SRMs shoot a small number of missiles in one burst. MRMs fire a stream of very numerous missiles. Neither has locks.

I will take some MRM's then as a secondary form of damage. I am mainly trying to kill anything that tries to flank, because I am very good at shooting tiny robots with my big guns.

That being said I need big damage for enemy assaults, still gotta be useful on the front lines.

People have been doing a lot of MRM40 or MRM30 x2 it seems. The bigger the MRM rack, the more weight efficient it is. Dunno how well it will fit on a gunboat KCrab though. Maybe LFEs spare enough weight.

Take the TAG, if you can spare the tonnage.

Bombast and Seranov are both right in that your primary weapons shouldn't be missiles but they're wrong on not taking TAG. Taking it has a major benefit stat-mongers hate:

It encourages your team to focus fire, a tagged target has a nice little icon saying "shoot me" and doesn't drop off the radar whilst you're engaging it. Front line units will have a clear bead on who to target when they pop and LRM users (if any are present) will naturally gravitate towards tagged targets for the accuracy bonus.

In a KCrab you're not going to have the luxury of popping in and out of cover so you may as well encourage your team mates to attack who you're attacking because there's a good chance the enemy will be shooting at you. You'll probably miss out on some damage and kills personally but when your team is winning you'll end up with a higher average than if you try to solo kill everything alone.

Wasting a ton on a "shoot here" sign when you can actively say "Shoot beta cyclops" or whatever is the definition of wasted tonnage. A King Crab will likely be asymmetrical and shielding whenever they're not actually shooting at folks, which means your tag is looking off into the distance where there isn't anyone to worry about.

Don't go for the range/lock-on. Go for the brawl. http://mwo.smurfy-ne...2c3d02b6ea9caf3

Just use artemis, at least it doesn't go with a please-shoot-me beam. Don't turn it into an LRM boat though, it's sufficient enough to run 2x AC10 + LRM20A/2x LRM10A + 2x LL.

The problem with this is you might be the only one who knows which target is Bravo. It's something I hate about how people target call in MWO...'Echo, Battlemaster, CT open.' Okay, which one is that? How many times do I have to press 'R' to get to it from my current target? Nobody ever says, 'Echo, grid Delta-4, extreme right end of our line.' They just yell 'Echo...shoot ECHO!' over and over again and wonder why they don't get any help. I'd prefer that people be specific when calling targets, but a TAG might still be better than calling only the phonetic. Point taken about the torso twisting, but you don't have to keep the TAG on during the twist.
