CCQ 3: Why is Machine Gun damage so low?

A: Partly due to the nature of how MGs work in the TT rules, partially due to how we chose to make it useful. When equipping a MG, keep in mind that it is not meant to burn through armor but is very useful for tearing up internals (crits). Bumping MG damage will turn it into a laser that can be kept on with no heat penalty until it runs out of ammo. Now imagine the devastating effect that a 6 MG spider could do to the back of an Atlas! We are still investigating balance of the MG but don’t expect any significant increase in damage.

Gotta love the power creep. Looking at you Piranha.

I loved that they used a build that never existed outside of someone's home game... as an example on why six of them was bad. But then spiders were already in the game at the time... powercreep is perfectly okay if its to sell a new mechpack.

They are saying that a 6 machine gun spider with a damage buff to machine guns could chew through an atlas's rear armor incredibly fast.

Also Spider = 30 Tons
Piranha = 20 Tons

The piranha doesn't have enough space to fit all those machine guns and lasers and have enough ammo to use them for very long. With how light it is you are basically stuck using machine guns and small lasers and be unable to use those slots for anything but those its highly unlike the piranha will be chewing through assault mechs.

Unless they are blind and alone which if you are, then a locus with 3 small lasers could finish the job just as well.

THERE. IS. NO. SPIDER. WITH. SIX. MACHINE. GUNS.

How does one can say a sentence is true when the foundation of the sentence is false from the first place?

Piranha carries 4 tons of ammo effortlessly, while mounting an ERML
It can get 1000 potential, when you factor in Crits (IE, double damage to Structure)

Wasn't just Spiders. Embers and Arrows also drove the nerfs. Then along comes clan and "here ya go lads, have up to 8".

Then a pair of AC20's on Boom Jagers etc were too strong so they gave them a Ghost Heat trigger of 2. Now there's UAC20's and Heavy Gauss doing a much better job than stock AC20's ever did.

Meh.

PGI only focuses on the popular combos which means they don't go back an de-nerf stuff that no longer needs it. I imagine they'd like to be better at this stuff but to be honest their team just isn't big enough or diverse enough to do it any other way. It's a shame but I don't see it changing.

Here is the final bit of irony. Current MG is actually stronger than when that thread was first made. Posted Image

PGI should have hired me. Heck, I'd do it for free!
