Just curious which maps get the most play and if players are on the map they want much of the time. For myself, I pilot catapults (yes - own them all) - so I look at these maps as a heavy with both short and long range builds.

#1 Grim Plexus (296 matches) - I only vote for this in skirmish. The death crater in the middle makes domination and conquest a snipe-fest. Or I end up on the team hiding in the buildings on the hill while the other team sweeps under and rolls us.

#2 Polar Highlands (271) - I will vote any mode on this map except escort. If teams can avoid a poking war in i9, these fights can be very fluid and having only light cover keeps players for going stagnant. Yes - at times I am raining LRMs. But I also like running the srm/ssrm builds or the dual ams jester in close support roles.

#3 Manifold (230) - NEVER - no - stop! A nascar map with a death drop for a lone lance. I always seem to be in the death drop: being run down by lights or trying to hold the enemy assaults at bay while my team nascars in the other direction.

#4 Frozen City - (226) Yes for skirmish or assault, NO for conquest and domination. Another map that features sniping. But what really makes this map a bit stagnant is the mechs hiding in the city (G7ish) waiting for others to walk in front of them and drop an alpha on their rear. Missiles tend to force a lot of face tanking waiting on streak lock or keeping lock for LRMs - not the best idea when someone is waiting around the corner will dual guass or a couple of 20s.

#5 Crimson Stait (186) - Ummmmm... maybe. These map features a base rush favorable side for both assault and incursion, a domination circle with cover on only 1 side.... it really depends which mech I am in. If I feel lucky, I vote and just hope to get the favorable side with a good team.

That's my top 5 by the numbers.

Viridian Bog
Mining Collective
Crimson Strait
Forest Colony
Tourmaline Desert

Thats all i vote for and in that order.. i like them

Used to love Forest Colony the most but the changes ruined it ..and River City too but that map is way too bias to one side over the other.

I only vote for Skirmish and Escort the rest are just stupid to play.

List of maps for those like me that can't remember the buggers:

ALPINE PEAKS
BOREAL VAULT
CANYON NETWORK
CAUSTIC VALLEY
CRIMSON STRAIT
EMERALD TAIGA
FOREST COLONY
FROZEN CITY
GRIM PLEXUS
GRIM PORTICO
HELLEBORE SPRINGS
HPG MANIFOLD
POLAR HIGHLANDS
RIVER CITY
RUBELLITE OASIS
SULFUROUS RIFT
TERRA THERMA
THE MINING COLLECTIVE
TOURMALINE DESERT
VITRIC FORGE
VIRIDIAN BOG

My top 5:

1: Canyon Network

I love the use of high and low terrain in this map, and appreciate the advantages that jumpjet mechs get in it. There are lots of strategic places to fire at range, ways to get close to brawl, etc. Overall, a versatile map.

2: HPG Manifold

I like the fact that there isn't clutter on this map. Less stupid crap to block your shots, less chance for ****** terrain hitbox, etc. Again, a good use of high and low terrain, ways to sneak behind your enemy, ways to avoid LRMs, etc. Another versatile map... although it's kind of a NASCAR-fest.

3: OLD Terra Therma

I miss this map. Although it was quite a stupid map, it was still unique with its central murder-box. The new one is just confusing, I rarely see it and I am glad.

4: Mining Collective

Simple and effective, like HPG Manifold. I like the central plateau in this map: it provides strategic interest. Take the centre, or not? Charge around? Take high ground to snipe at people? Another map with great opportunity for jumpjet mechs.

5: OLD Frozen City

I miss this map. It was interesting. Saddle pushes were fun... well, less fun to be on the end of one.

1. HPG Manifold - Yes and no. More so only if i'm running super hot derp builds, high heat laser vom or PPC spam.

2. Canyon Network - If there's nothing else that's good, then yes. Mostly no because it's likely to be picked anyway.

3. Tourmaline Desert - 50/50, likely to be picked anyway but it's also fun running hot builds on hot maps.

4. Crimson Strait - For the most part no (likely to be picked), kinda boring imo. Always the same 3 choke points that get played no matter the game mode.

5. Mining Collective - Likely to be picked anyway, but i do dump votes in brawl builds (not often, but once in awhile) and hope my team doesn't pull out their sleeping bags on the ramp.

For the past few months other than playing the mini-game each patch, i only pick Terra Therma (Especially Domination. Not that i enjoy it, just because it raises some salt levels and i'm that kind of guy Posted Image). When you see the 4 maps pop up on the vote screen you have a fairly good idea what's going to be picked so i just leave it up to you guys to waste votes. So for the most part i choose Random (even though it's not).

1. HPG Manifold (529) - I love this map because all kinds of builds are viable here. Small map and both sides spawn in balanced locations. I suspect it's the favorite map in MWO so I sometimes do not vote for it if I see that the other maps are the ones few people like.

2. Canyon Network (465) - Balanced spawn points again and you are able to use all kinds of builds with equal success, but I hate that mobility becomes an issue if you fall down the wrong ravine. Win or lose, I usually enjoy my outings on this map.

3. Mining Collective (430) - I absolutely despise this map because it totally screws over LRM builds. I ALWAYS unload my multipliers to avoid this map, yet here it is.

4. Crimson Strait (417) - I do not like this map because it screws over LRM builds if the team pushes the tunnel. I never vote for this map, and sometimes spend my multipliers to avoid it if I see a more balanced map. This is a boring map to boot because the platform is a choke point so all fights occur there with no chance of any other strat except to out poke the other team. Every now and then a push succeeds and this is awesome, but this is also very rare.

5. Tourmaline Desert (408) - I do not like this map as it screws over LRM builds too if the team is not aggressive enough. I have stopped using LRMs because of these last 3 maps. I never vote for this map, but at least I do not unload my multipliers to avoid it.

Conclusion:
3/5 of my 5 most played maps are maps I never vote for.

I vote for whatever is most likely to get me out of playing Polar Highland. I would normally be voting for maps I don't get to see very often. But people who clearly pad their votes so they can farm on Polar Highland piss me off. So I'm bound and determined to ruin that for them.

Otherwise I vote for Terra Therma or The Bog.

HPG - 967
Canyon Network - 987
River City - 953
Tourmaline - 898
Crimson - 862

Top maps according to stats, though in reality I feel like I see Frozen City and Rubellite the most lately, with a hefty smattering of Crimson.

I vote for conquest on any map besides Polar, since it's always the highest earnings, especially for losses. Polar is just too big and teams split too much for Conquest to feel good there. Another good thing about Conquest is it causes people to actually move around and camp less, whether they want to or not. I will vote anything against Escort, because it's terrible in every way, and I'll vote anything else over Assault, especially since Incursion is just what Assault should have been replaced with.

I don't really have a preference for hot vs. cold maps- I run even my vomit builds to be cool enough, I just prefer better layouts, less clutter, and better optimization. Bog and River City would be ok for example if their night modes weren't so horrendously done, or if we had working vision modes to make up for it. Forest Colony is barely playable as far as FPS goes with the fog, but I've learned to deal with it after playing MWO with low FPS for years. Canyon, HPG and Alpine will always be my favorite maps simply due to performance- they're the only maps besides old FoCo that I can get 60+ fps on, plus I tend to enjoy all 3 for Conquest.

My top five favorite maps:

- 1 - Old Frozen City

- 2 - Old Forest Colony

- 3 - New Frozen City

- 4 - Canyon Network

- 5 - HPG Manifold

- 6 - Tourmaline Desert

- 7 - Grim Plexus

- 8 - New Terra Therma

- 9 - Rubellite Oasis

- 10 - New River City

Went to my top ten maps including maps that no longer are offered but I did enjoy them because since the Old maps where small you could use features of the map (tunnels) to be effective, where on the new versions those portions are left to waste. One map in my top ten that I might actually rank higher is Rubellite Oasis, which I find to be a very enjoyable map. I just listed it towards the end because it still is fairly new. One map I might rank lower than it currently is is New Frozen City and that got its rank based more so on how good Old Frozen City was more so than its own individuality.

By also looking at my list I notice heat really isn't the issue for me when I enjoy hot, cold, and neutral maps evenly, and I think it is because I enjoy maps that while there is a set normal move here to the map you also have a good chance of using other features of the map as well.

The map I hate the most is Polar Highlands, now it isn't what you are thinking. I do not mind lrm or long range game play which Polar Highlands does very nicely (so does Alpine Peaks). But what I hate about these maps is fighting anywhere on the map is the same feel as fighting anywhere else on the map. There is a lack of defining features across the map which I find makes it boring.

I dont really vote for maps and modes too much anymore. Im at the point where I will take pretty much anything that is thrown at me. Except Escort. Seriously enough is enough of that jazz.

Oh and who doesnt miss the old frozen city though! That was the first map I remember enjoying wayyyyy back when I bought the Yen Lo.

Edit - personal map stats [No. of matches]

1. Grim Plexus [469]
2. Crimson Strait [385]
3. HPGManifold [364]

It's probably a good way to pad your multiplier...

My five most played maps are as follows:
Polar Highlands (261)
Grim Plexus (255)
HPG Manifold (238)
Crimson Strait (237)
Canyon Network (232)

I don't typically vote, because voting means I have to pay attention to the whole matchmaking procedure, and it's better to just hit search and alt+tab until the game starts and save myself 4 minutes of staring at a screen doing nothing while waiting for a 6 minute game.

Also because when I vote for not-Plexus A, only to discover that not-Plexus B lost to Plexus by 2%, that's really soul crushing.

Escort. Escort is an ok mode, above Assault, Incursion, Domination and Conquest.

Grim Plexus: 73
HPG Manifold: 69
Polar Highlands: 63
River City: 32
River City is the only map of those five I ever actually vote for. You can see what good it does me. They badly need to change this voting system. If I didn't play for long stretches I'd never see half the maps in the game.

HPG Manifold (423)
River City/Canyon Network (tied @ 375)
Caustic Valley/Crimson Strait (tied @ 345)
Honorable mention to Tourmaline Desert (338)

The map I vote for usually depends on the build I'm running and how hot the map is, if I bother voting at all (I often don't). I'd rather see it be totally random, or let us pick the maps and game types then have five minutes in lab to adjust our builds (but be locked into whatever chassis/variant we had when the game launched).

EDIT: Forgot to answer the basic question. I like HPG because it's cold, but other than that, no, I'm totally sick of it and will vote for other maps. I hate Canyon. I think River is boring. Crimson is OK, but would be better without the mountain in the middle. Caustic is probably my favorite map out of these, tbh.

EDIT #2: Those were Current stats. I checked Archive, and it's like this:
Tourmaline Desert (362)
Canyon Network (292)
Alpine Peaks (227)
Caustic Valley (209)
Frozen City Night (207)
