Does it add to the gameplay?

I don't find it so because the effect is for the whole map, e.g. on the foggy Forest Colony and Viridian Bog.

Day/night cycle alleviates this somewhat and the cave section in the old Forest was a good example where using alternative vision is tied to a tactical move.

There are people who run those on a lot of maps. Not because you have to, it just seems you can see enemy mechs better. Like Heatvision on Caustic or HPG. There is no need to otherwise imho.

I mean practically the whole asset the artists created is wasted on these maps. Not to mention, I don't find it fun to see in black and white the whole time.

You can choose to not use heat vision on HPG, for example, and you'll be fine.

I'm colorblind, which is a problem that gets exacerbated on some maps, so I end up using heat vision on a lot of maps. I'm not switching back and forth between vision modes, but going into heat vision and staying there for an entire game.

I don't think PGI should change the game to accommodate my handicap. It's just my own problem.

But, I do think the OP's observation about going into a vision mode and staying there for an entire game is a bit of a missed opportunity for gameplay. Instead of dynamically switching to different vision modes throughout a single match, based on the situation, most of the time we just go into a vision mode and stay there for an entire match.

Unfortunately, I don't have any ideas how to improve on this right now.

The alternative vision could be tied to a particular place on the map like on the old Forest Colony where you have a cave which is useful for flanking the enemy. Goes without saying that the cave is dark and night/heat vision is useful for navigating it.

Not judging. I actually dont care. Do it if it helps you. I know people who do it without beeing colorblind, other people turn on the hitindicator, i didnt know it was there for a long time. I am just saying i dont use those and dont judge people who do.

My eyesight is pretty bad, and I typically cant see **** on maps such as Forest Colony. I'd prefer if the fog is removed entirely, but that's just me.

I agree totally! Being almost forced to play entire matches in heat/night vision because the sight is so bad just sucks. I wanna see nice explosions, colors and stuff. As said before, the heat/night visions should be a tactial component which helps you in certain situations (f. e. to see through smoke, in "darker Areas" of a map...), but not required the whole time of a match. It should separete the man from the boys (?).

Night vision helps me on HPG and Terra Therma.

My eyesight is pretty good and I still can't see **** on foggy Forest Colony and Veridian Bog. I'm pretty sure the issue, and sentiment, is not limited to you. That being said, it does at least mix things up a little.
