First off, this should be in off topic forums. Second, you are a couple of days late to the party.

It's more like a propane torch:

which technically is a flamethrower I guess.

It's not a flamethrower, its a big blowtorch. I blame Hollywood for the confusion.

I bet if I wrapped a nerf gun shell around the old propane torch I've got lying around somewhere, I'd be able to seel it for at least 500 bucks.

I gotta admit, this is cute and all, but it seems like a phenomenally bad idea. Can you imagine the liability (and bad press) when someone burns their house down? The average consumer is 100% not ready for this.

I've seen people on youtube start kitchen grease fires for a laugh. Someones house is doomed when these things are released.

So, bets on which state will pass a law to make owing/buying one of these illegal because they really have no idea what it actually does?

Edit: And it looks like Cali will be the winner.

I'm curious what it could "actually do" that would make it remotely a good idea for an average person to own.

The Verge has a link to an Instagram post showing it in action. If you really believe the final product will act that ways since you can see the model is not the same as the picture you see in every article.

Final product will probably be something that shoots a flame out a little more than the BernzOmatic you can pick up at your local Home Depot. Unfortunately, even with those, there is no end to the stupidity that can be produced with it’s ownership by an alarming growing percent of the population.

If it's a glorified lighter then I grant you, it's fine. In that case, I'd be rather amazed that people would spend $500 on it.

Reminds me of that "flamethrower vs fire extinguisher" episode of mythbusters.

So, liquid nitrogen thrower when?
