Heya Mechwarriors, Just because we are doing pug drops does not mean that we can not have some kind strategic cooperation during game drops. If you are in any way similar to me, you want to win even in pug drops. We as a pug team will be more successful by at least 50 percent if we all get headsets and microphones and just simply call out our targets and stick together. Use your Q key to look for those said target and shoot at them. Thank you for your time and consideration!

imagine if there was a requirement for someone to take leadership on each game and after the game you rate them.
leaders would come out of the woodwork.

That is absurd, did not know that, or just don't remember, had mine on since the inception of VOIP, which took forever.

the voip output boost was at +0 db, you would SEE ppl push to talk but not HEAR them
it's just silly

while that is true, i could not hear ppl talk even tho i had output device set. setting the boost to a positive value changed that.

edit: it doesnt even say boost, but playback level.
ranging from -20 db to +20 db, default at 0 db

the checkmark at enable voip is on, but with 0 db as the playback level.....yeah....

Is teamwork and VOIP OP? Yes. Here's the problem - Most people are oblivious and terrible, and their VOIP comments range from worthless to an active detriment to the team. The average person calling targets is wasting everyones time, pointing out the enemy that no one but him can actually get a line on, and the average person calling strategies has the map awareness of a blind worm.

The vast majority of QP VOIP callers are actively and unknowingly throwing their matches, and when I leave VOIP on, it's only so I can hear how I'm about to get screwed over by my team.

I've been playing mostly other games for about 6 monts and just came back. There seems to be quite a lot less chatter, tactical or not, in the comms nowadays. Speak up, people. Call your targets, if nothing else =)

That's the thing about a cat rodeo..
"okay people, let's stay together, focus fire, lock your targets.."
They look at you like they understand, they might even respond positively, but then upon drop, 3 of the assaults just stand there motionless for half a minute, the lights turn and run off, a light scout pops up on radar, the assaults finally start moving, and the Direwolf and Maurader take off after the scout while our lights are farming their discos..

Keep in mind, there are players who cannot get on VOIP for various reasons such as guys and gals who have kids and loved ones sleeping, etc. Also there are folks who have a disability such as a hear loss an VOIP is useless. Be respectful for other mech players such as this as I have had players tell me to get on VOIP or get off the game. I mean REALLY? WOW.
So learn to play without VOIP and use VOIP as an extra asset.

Right there with Bombast’s assessment. I left VoIP on for my Alt (mic off though), and I’ve had to stop playing to tell someone in chat to shut it because it was negatively affecting my ability to compensate for their poor performance.

I think also that both tier and which server a player is on makes big difference. As I moved up in tiers, the voip use seemed to improve (both quantity and quality), except when on the European server (where quantity is quite low for me, but the quality tends to be high when it is there). It seems like not many players on that server use voip much, which may be due to various language barriers, as well as the other challenges of real life which are shared by all players.

I also think players tend to mirror their environment - if no one starts talking, no one talks. I try to share helpful info when I can, but who knows if it is perceived as helpful. Plus, just because someone is on voip and making calls, it doesn't guarantee that anyone else on the field agrees with or will follow their suggestions - that's the nature of pugging it.

Even when dead and spectating, I try to offer some insights like "Alpha's right torso is open" or whatever might help someone who is shooting at that target. I know that tunnel vision is real and sometimes knowing an opportunity is there can be helpful.

My experience is the exact opposite. More people use VOIP when they are new as opposed to veterans. It's high tier games that is almost completely silence. Take theb33f's game for example. I love his stream because he talks all the time on twitch. But when you get into an actual drop with him, it's the exact opposite. You might hear him 2 times the entire match.

I call this "I'm the sh7t" syndrome. Where everyone in high tiers are too good to make calls anymore. They all think everyone should just intrinsically know what to do.

Go into various units, you get some units that envy EVIL or KCOM for their lack of communication.

I've always encouraged players who want to take command and drop call in solo Q, just don't be a d!ck with it and don't expect everyone to follow your commands as there is no requirement for players to follow your commands.
Learning by experience is the way to go, the best experiences have been when someone was confident enough to speak up in a respectful manner, it usually results in others also weighing in on tactical decisions, and cohesion to some degree or another takes place resulting in a far more satisfying match effort regardless of a win or loss.
Best part players gain experience on what and what does not work.

Well, they kind of should. No one should be able to make it into T2 matches without knowing the HPG basement strat doesn't work on assault mode, and I've yet to meet someone who made that mistake that was receptive to corrective commentary.

I know it's fun to make fun of tryhards, but let's be honest here - theres a reason most don't bother calling. It's because it's largely pointless.
