I use Heat Vision on HPG. It highlights enemies for me so that I can spot them more quickly.

I wish this black and grey garbage we have now being called thermo is disgusting and frankly unreal..

Seriously has no one ever used real thermo...

Here's an example of military FLIR, like the kind you would find on an armored vehicle like a mech.

They should just bury the function at the end of a long skill tree node chain like seismic is. That way there is an opportunity cost. On a related note, seismic is too expensive, nobody but lurmers or ECM has reason to invest in the sensory tree given the other options.

I like the idea of integrating better vision modes into the skill-tree like they did with advanced zoom.

But i strongly disagree that seismic is too expensive, in my opinion it's worth every point for many mechs. If you run a any mobile harasser with limited range without seismic you are probably doing it wrong. I run it even in heavier mechs, it saved my *** from enemy pushes or backstabbers several times. And have you ever tried hill-humping with seismic? You can often point your weapons into the exact direction of a target before you expose which enables much more profitable trades.

Also don't forget that the majority of target info gathering nodes are located on the way to the left seismic node. So many mechs need them to quickly identify weak components that at least the left seismic node is a steal for those. Many pilots also swear on Radar Derp which is located near seismic too. So there are many builds where going for at least the left seismic node has a lot of additional benefits.

Last but not least maps with multiple floors like HPG, Crimson or Rubbelite heavily favor those who field seismic. Knowing if and how many mechs are above or beneath you and where they are heading is very valuable information. And few things are more rewarding than placing a stealth strike in a corner on HPG basement knowing that half the enemy team is sitting above you. Posted Image

Edit:
Speaking of it:

Yes, if they added actual ambient environmental effects so you'd be getting false returns and blurred contacts at range.
