My first exposure to the universe was MechAssault on the Xbox. I really liked that game.

I'm just glad we have a mech game to play now. It's not perfect, but I wish people would maintain some perspective in their criticism of PGI.

Dude the day Fallout 4 was launched the forums were flipping 5 full pages a minute, 90% hate. Its the perfect example of how strong the troll army is and how irrelevant for the most part. Especially in single player games. Millions still play Fallout 4 and Skyrim daily.

So anyway the negative hype for this game pails in comparison.

I get a laugh from the recent pushes for rebalancing for example, when balance is actually quite good now finally.

I wont go into that topic for fear of the MechWarrior Online Community Party going berserk on me though. :) I can already hear alts logging in en mass to send complaints this reply ROFL.

Its not about favourites its about how good the game is. Name an alternative that is better. Overwatch? Super popular but garbage. PUBG? Actually doesn't look bad but very limited in scope in the extreme. Maybe some of the loot and items grind MMO's with bad pvp? No. I could go on.

Mechwarrior Online is likely the best online game available and it is also swarmed by trolls inside and out, but also a lot of good talent working on it to.

Name a better online game.

I'm not trying to convince you that you are wrong. May as well argue with a born again Christian or some other zealot about their personal belief. It's a waste of time.

I'm sure that you truly do think that this is "the best game", probably (some might say sadly) it's even true for you. There are too many good franchises out there that dwarf this game to bother listing.

Just rest assured that other than in your world, the majority would disagree in a variety of ways.

For as good as all those other free to play games are. I don't play any of them anymore. And some I haven't touched in literally years. I haven't uninstalled this game for anything less than my computer going toes up. I don't play nearly as much as I used to. But I still play it enough to not uninstall. Which is more than I can say for those so called "better" games. We have solid gameplay, we just need better modes, and a greater purpose to build toward. Sadly won't be getting the latter any time soon. :/

World of Tanks.

5 international servers, available on 4 different platforms, free-to-play and spanwed 2 additional franchises.

That's success in the F2P market.

The article even cites World of Tanks as a model of success that they wanted for themselves. And while MWO is a fun game, they haven't reached anywhere near that level of success.

Not even 1/100th of that level of success.

Skyrim still has mods being made for it and I still play it. Mwo meh when I feel like it. No reason to spend any money on mwo or pgi after their war horn bs. Sure they can fix a war horn mess up within two days but balance mechs and weapons that takes years because reasons. Johny is the pgi cheerleader you'll be hard pressed not to find him waving the pgi pom poms even if they zeroed out his mc,c-bills,gxp,hxp,mxp, cut his inventory in half, and took all his paint and cammo he'd still find a reason to say they are the best and mwo is the best pc game ever.

Strangely enough in closed beta I was much like him. All the screw ups, nerfs and power creeping plus pain and obvious clan bias including russ' comments concerning the players which might be failed attempts at humor or just flat out insults depending on your pov means that I have long ago game up any hope of pgi making this game 'the best' when it hardly even comes any where close to a 'thinking man's shooter.' A smart man wouldn't keep doing the same tactics that result in losing time and again in qp or playing to the poor map design.

The truth of the matter is that there is a consistent interest in tank warfare, exactly why you have all these games over the years from simple browser-based flash games to something like World of Tanks. While WoT compared to WT Ground Forces feels more "arcade", it does provide in-depth details/information of all the tanks/ammunition/guns/tracks/engine/etc. to sort of both immerse you and educate. It also has an in-depth combat system, mostly referring to armor values at X angle/shell types/module damage and whatnot (arcade standards, but enough to make you think twice before taking a shot).

MWO has none of that. There's no mech lore, everyone apparently has weapons from the same manufacturer and oh cool we're dropping on the planet Baker 3... what are the details of this plan- there's no information okay then.

Going back to what i first said, there's a consistent and evolving interest in tank warfare be it historic or current. Mechwarrior lost its charm during the years from MW4 to MWO CBT, i'm willing to bet some even forgot what Mechwarrior even was during that downtime. While there still is a chunk (us) that are still interested in giant stampy robits, it just isn't what it used to be.

If we measure quality of a game in terms of it's commercial success (which is a valid perspective for developers or publishers, but why we should care about this as players?), then MWO is way behind the 1st league. However if we would measure quality of food in terms of its commercial success, hamburgers should be deemed the best food in the world.

For me, MWO is the best MMO out there. Faaaar from perfect, but still the best. Each to their own, but I don't think that I'm so much of a special snowflake to be the only person in the world to find MWO as the best for oneself. Played WoT and quit. Played WT and quit. Played APB and quit.

Didn't try the rest, mostly because
A) I got bored with twitch shooters, because I always quickly reach somewhere around low gold/low pro/low whatever top rank is called and then I stay out there due to limitations of my reflexes and my unwillingness to use ever present OP gear.
Posted Image 95% MMOs now have generic colourful anime-like setting of mixing everything with everything. No proper cohesive atmosphere - that's something I hate, while now it's the leading trend everywhere. Magic waifus vs robots vs space ninjas vs cyber cowboys. Bleh.

Found out about that Crossout game recently and it the cohesive postapocaliptic setting appealed to me. Considered trying it out, despite having bad experience with Gaijin Entertainment. And guess what? I found out they've just introduced sci-fi hovertanks and energy weapons to their rusted-metal-dirty postapo game. No chance I'll have a good time playing that.

About Fallout 4 - sorry Jonny, but fans have every right to hate it. Bethesda ripped the franchise of 95% of what Fallout originally was, partly just to 'streamline', appeal to broader audience, partly because their writers are just terribly bad. Fallout 4 is not even an rpg anymore, with its trace character progression system and YES(yes)-NO(yes)-IRONIC(yes)-GOODBYE(yes later) dialogue tree.
The only thing Bethesda can do is making a sandbox maps that are somehow fun to roam around and lie players into feeling the game has any depth.

I tried Warthunder and other F2P games. They don't compare. Fun for a while or to those that don't know MechWarrior Online is available.

I have recommended MechWarrior Online a few times. Always with a strong warning that it is swarmed by trolls. Nothing personal either, many online games are swarmed by trolls. This being near the top though. I would go so far as to say the more potential a game has the more it is trolled.

Reading your reply again I cant believe you think those games are in the same league as MechWarrior Online.

MWO simply doesn't compare in sheer quality and execution to War Thunder. Gaijoob is Gaijoob, but PGI's entire creative and development talent doesn't equate to their pinkie. Right there from the sheer look of the game, WT is an a completely different league. Heck, their game engine is still superior to whatever Wargaming.net is using, a company so big that it bought the company making their game engine. So are WT's player numbers when I can see it jump to 65,000 concurrent players (playing at the same time) during peak hours.

I do tend to think the best massive team vs. team game in the PC platform today that isn't a MOBA might be Wargaming's World of Warships. Awesome studio at St. Petersburg and a sheer quality development team. The ship models they recreate, like the recent Battleship Roma is just a sight to behold. For mobile, Apple and Android, best team vs. team action game goes to Pixonic's War Robots. It means a lot when Google awards your game Editor's Choice, which puts you in a very elite cadre of apps.

Consistent interest like a rejuvenation of tank interest thanks to anime like Girls und Panzer and movies like Fury, Wargaming knows how to exploit and license them.

Its hard to say MWO is Great game. while its pacing is unique it does have several competitors that could be argued as being better alternatives .I do not believe world of tanks, war thunder, or world of warships are are a good comparison to MWO despite the constant attempts to do so. MWO is nothing like those games.

MWO is more akin to robocraft, crossout, M.A.V. and other build and destroy titles , that is were MWO ranks in quality, its about average maybe above average, in the build and destroy genre . the thing that makes it shine is its IP. other wise its game play is about standard for the category.

I think that is what really irks a lot of us players is that we were expecting WOT WOWarships, Battlefield or WT like levels of quality lore and developer commitment to the title but in stead we have what have now. If we would have had our expectations set accordingly and expected something along the lines of robocraft or crossout I bet we would be more forgiving of the state of MWO . maybe even to point more would agree that it was the best of the build and destroy category. but its far from being the best in a much broader field of truly more deserving titles of such praise.

World of Tanks is a lot like this game. The biggest difference is that the tanks walk. Otherwise it's the same point-and-click the other guy until his hitpoints run out with an indirect-fire mini-game that nobody really likes.

If anything, PGI was in a similar place when they started this project as Wargaming or Gaijin were when they started their projects. All were small companies that nobody had ever heard of developing their games on established engines. PGI was actually starting with a more advanced engine than Wargaming was with WoT.

MWO isn't really a "build and destroy" anymore than World of Tanks is. You start with an established unit and you put the guns you want on it. WoT is similar in that you have choices on what gun, turret, ammo, engines, etc you decide to take with you when you press the "PLAY THE GAME" button. Games like Crossout, you're never really likely to see the same thing twice because you are literally building from the ground up. MWO has established meta builds just like WoT, with the option to run troll builds, just like WoT.

I don't think it's really fair to tell us we should've had lower expectations just because the people developing this game haven't lived up to them. We've seen how wildly successful a small company with a niche game idea could be. So neither of those excuses really work.
