I've only recently begun to attempt to pilot something outside of the light category and i've noticed something a little odd.

My cougar-c Carrying 4 hml, 2hll, and an ECM seems to be able to carry more heatsinks(after weapons) than the Hellbringer I am also carrying 4hml and 2 hll on.

however my confusion lies in that the hellbringer has a much larger engine and 3 internal double heatsinks as well as any extra heatsinks i decide to throw into it and i feel a lot like my cougar C is capable of alpha striking more often than my hellbringer without worrying about my heat capacity.

I know i havent linked my build, but i can only understand that i just dont understand the function of the heatsinks. Do they add to the heat cap of the mech? or do they just aid in the dissipation of heat?

They aid in the dissipation of heat. That's it.

They add to the heat cap and the dissipation.

The Cougar's heat dissipation quirk is probably responsible here. It's actually slightly higher than the amount it would need to equal 10 "TruDubs" of cooling, especially if you stack it with the skill tree bonus.

Dont you lose the quirks on the mech if you swap out the omni though? because mine is part C part E and part H.

you only lose the set-of-eight omnipod quirks. the cougar's heat dissipation quirk is tied to the center torso though, so you'll always have it regardless of your omnipod configuration.
