Been trying the trial mechs in Light, medium, and heavy class. I seem to do better in certain areas at certain roles.

My over all question is what "stat" best illustrates the class and role I'm best at? "Stats" being damage done, time in match, win/loss ratio, assists, etc.

Medium; I bought my 1st mech after a few matches, it was a crab as I thought it looked cool and it's profile seemed lower than most. I set it up as a sniper and thought to tag along with other snipers and shoot at what they shoot at, hoping my lower weight class would make me less of a target. Unfortunately, it seems to make me more of a target. My "assists" are pretty high in this role/class but I tend to die before the match ends more often than not.

Heavy; Lore wise this is my favorite, but using the trial mech; Hellbringer I tend to do more damage than other weight classes but I also die quicker.

Light; Using the trial Adder with all medium lasers, I tend to seek out the biggest friendly assault mech and play body guard. In all honesty, this is my highest time in match class/role. I feel like my light mech's speed is being wasted as I spend most of my time in the shadow of an assault mech but when the enemy tries to flank said assault mech, the assault and I really clean house. My damage is low but my win/loss ratio has been high and I "feel" like I'm making the biggest team contribution.

Assault; haven't tried yet, my past experience with other MechWarrior games taught me I don't do so well with the walking turrets (unless it's a Sunder with beefed up engines).

So in conclusion, and again; what "stat" (time in match, damage done, assists, win/loss, etc.) is generally valued more than the others in deciding weight class and role?

No one stat is going to give you the answer, and you are the only one who will know if those stats are accurate and what you did to get them, but for my money, the best catch all is match score.

Way more important to know the mechs, what builds they excel with, and what you enjoy the most.

Quirks are the most stand out stats. Otherwise you can look at agility stats. Compare them to mechs you already have. Though take into account the skill tree can raise them. For instance the Uziel has the most agility of mediums over 45 tons. There's somew stand outs in agility for each weight range. As well as those that got hit with the nerf hammer.

Okay, first off, stats are not the answer here. They are indicators of things you've done, but that it is. Personally, I'm happy if I got more'n one most damage dealt.

Now, that done, let's move on. Dying. It happens. Twelve mechs on a side inna skirmish and even if one team does awesome, at best half of them'll die. Most games, even more. Accept that. Figure out how best to use your mech before it happens, and get the most outta it you can.

Now, from what you've posted, it sounds like you know how to use your lights as a force multiplier. Sure, they might have less firepower, but if you're not getting hit and distracting mechs from tearing apart your assaults, then even though your stats might not reflect, if you feel like your making a difference, maybe you are?

Me, I'm a line breaker. I'm a brawler and I've decent situational awareness, and I don't mind hitting 'w' until I've had my umpteenth mech shot out from under me. With a decent read of enemy positions I can break a team's resistance. I try to find a strong point on the enemies side and figure out how to take it down to give me team an advantage above the end of match numbers. Sometimes it means throwing my mech against superior numbers to shore up a failing flank to keep my team alive, sometimes it means charging a sniper and trading my mech for theirs. Sometimes, just sometimes, I get to play an ambush predator stalking mechs in my natural habitat and taking them out one at a time. It's rough on the points sometimes, and hard to tell if it worked or not at others. But it's what I love.

Rather'n checking stats, try some things and figure out what you feel like is the most helpful. Check your battlemap often and watch the teams. See if you can figure out how they move and why and see if you can alter the flow of battle in your team's favour. Start small, see what changes you can effect, and do what you enjoy.

As for assaults, I'll just leave this here....

I'd assume most experienced players would tell u the best representation isn't any individual stat, but a combination of win loss, kill death and average match score. As each can be individually padded to be higher somewhat artificially, a good combination of all 3 is harder. But if you're relatively new, like 1 of the earlier responses, average match score is a somewhat good indicator

KDR. Honestly which ever mech you do best killing vs being killed is going to be the mech for you right now. You are new and as such you are going to have a bit of a stretch before you can get into more nuanced game play. At this stage in your career you should go with what you are doing best in while you learn. As you develop you have to be willing to try different classes and different roles because your play style, as it develops, may be better suited to a different weight class or chassis.

Lets face it, the fun is in killing stuff so pick the mech you have the best chance of doing that.
