Recently i have found myself "branching out" to other mechs other than my cougar, i still love my cougar to bits and flaming pieces, but its good to shake it up.
For the trials i have been running the trial direwhale(of which i have been calling a trialwhale) but i have a question or two.
What the hell is the point of having 6 different half ton nodes of gauss ammo? is there a reason for that or was the person putting this thing together just trying to fill up all the slots?
I am greatly enjoying the dual gauss, but the Trialwhale had its issues..particularly in mobility. Is there a better platform that is nearly as tanky as the whale? Should i even bother?
Thanks in advance!

The gauss ammo is crit padding, as it doesn't explode like other ammo.

Its crit padding. Lowers the chance of other equipment getting critted out.
Are you looking for a better dual gauss platform? Mad Cat MK II Deathstrike would be the best but its MC only, MCII-1 though is good. Go dual gauss, 2 HLL, 2 ER ML.

If you are looking for a dual gauss Clan mech, I'd recommend either the Madcat Mk II (1) or the Marauder IIC (D) as both will do pretty well. For Inner Sphere, folks are fond of using a Warhammer mostly.
To be completely honest though, if as a new player you bought a cougar and stuck it out and became good with it, I would recommend getting a Huntsman as a step up as soon as possible. The cougar probably taught you patience in handling a not-so-fast mech and clan weaponry, and map positioning. The Huntsman rewards that training handsomely, hands down. You can also rig it with a Gauss + 5 Er Med Laser build with the Prime. On cold maps you can alpha the gauss and full lasers fairly often, and on hot maps you can alpha with the gauss and full lasers and then alternate with gauss and 2 or 3 lasers when your heat is an issue.

I'll one-up the Huntsman. Great hitboxes, great firing positions, decent agility, and looks sexy to boot.

Try the Atlas, faster, can maneuver better and can beat up the Dire Wolf
