Why does such a good looking chassis have to be soooooooooooooooo undergunned.

It is a little bit 'bulkier and less lithe than I though it would be, but it is a sharp looking mech nonetheless.

One thing do I like on it visually is those little armor pieces on the lower legs

A wee bit squatter than the concept art

Because that's what it is. All engine.

We are running out of outliers, though.

I have a better question:

Why does it look nothing like the concept art? Where did all that beef come from?

Probably a volume adjustment between concept and modelling. It likely had numbers that had to line up with some arcane formula tucked into the folds of a spreadsheet.

They could just, y'know, use their scaling incantations as a guideline and not a hard-and-fast rule.

Yep, I agree. Though I'd be leery of that, were I them... not because of any perceived balance issues, but because establishing any type of precedent in front of our intrepid community, then breaking it, is like dangling your sensitive bits over a piranha tank.

"If they rescaled that, why can't they do our lights! Argh! Avast, grab ye pitchforks ye macrosslubbers!"

Exactly.
Not entirely sure what lead to the filling out unless there was some strategic importance in doing so, IE make it easier to leg or in order to meet said archaic formula for volume and meet some arbitrary criteria for height. Idk.

Not to beat a very dead horse with a piano that recently resurfaced, but the Nightstar was a similar victim with its yuuuuge CT. Another one that I fancied being more 'lithe looking, but apparently not. Waddle waddle

With about 14 tons of weapons tonnage, I'm pretty sure the only useful builds will revolve around medium/small lasers and/or SRMs.
Eg, 6x ER Small + 3x SRM6 with Artemis.

It could also do stuff like 3x ER Large/Heavy Large or 2x ER PPC/Large Pulse, but without jumpjets it won't be able to get into sniper positions like the Shadow Cat as easily, nor will it be able to poptart.

Even then, that would be a hot build considering all BLA's only come with the default 10 dhs, and are sans of the additional ones that can go in the engine.

Might... Might just come with some heat hen quirks, just saying.

I LOVE my Shadow Cats and this mech looks right up my ally.

Really hope it doesn't turn out all Thanatosish on me though.

What do you mean, what's wrong with the Thanatos?

just throw 5-6ERML and 4 machine guns on there, it'll be fine.

I actually prefer the in game mech to the concept art tbh..

And it looks smallish as one screenshot shows a catapult and it only comes up to the cockpit of it.

I'm thinking its about Shadowcat size.

I like the leaner, meaner concept art look too... but at least they fixed the placement on that RA energy hardpoint- it's properly centered now for the single-mount pods. I was also afraid that the 6E arm might get laid out vertically, but the laser stack is horizontal, so it isn't going to have problems dragging its knuckles. All six hardpoints are only just under cockpit level.

BTW, the 'Mech is only undergunned if you try to stuff it full of heavy missile racks or ballistics. Run it as a laserboat or lasers+SRM4s and it's got as much punch as a SCR, shot for shot- just with a lower effective rate of fire because it won't fit as many sinks. This is definitely going to be a shoot-and-scoot 'Mech. That shouldn't be as much of an issue with mostly high mounts and ultra-high agility to let you pick your trades.

Imma have to report you for TKing 'cuz this slayed me. God but this mech was supposed to look so pretty and yet the realized version looks like such pants. I mean I didn't pre-order it because I knew it was going to be too hard for me to get performance out of, but I was expecting to at least see a different profiled mech on the battlefield. Tall and lanky geometry would have at least helped it be tankier when used in combination with its speed.

The B-Lanner is 5 tons too heavy for what it's trying to do - it'd have slightly more pod space @ 50 tons because of the way the engine maths works out. Even then they probably made it too fast - 97.2kmh is plenty quick for a medium 'mech, and with MASC it'd still be agile as **** and have enough free tonnage for decent armour and weapons.

EDIT: I wonder if they'll make the Sun Spider chunkier too? Kinda hoping they don't, I love Alex's slim high concept for it >.>

Considering how it went with Fat Lanners, its time to start worrying about those Fafnirs and Blood Asps.

What do you guys think, 5 ER ML, 4 MGs (1.5t) 13 DHS, or 12 DHS and ECM?

Will depend on the set of 8 quirks on that one variant I guess.
