Russ said a while ago answering a question about Chris's mandate that he had given Chris "the keys to the kingdom" or something along those line implying a large degree of power and freedom, but now comes Paul and claims Chris is "on a tight leash" with very limited executive power.

These statements contradict each other so one must be false, or both perhaps if they are just evasive answers invented on the spot.

I can't help but wonder if Russ and Paul maybe don't see eye to eye on where to go with balance and this is what holds up progress.

[Redacted]

We'll try again since alluding to something even vaguely has confused a chap whose primary language is not English.

So fight back by making sure MW5 fails and doesn't get your money.

The absolute most constructive thing that could happen to this IP is for PGI to go belly up and a competent company takes over.

Now I better run off before the fella goose steps his way over.

unconstructive

I feel the only really way to get businesses to do anything these days is attack their money and their social media.. Forums are pointless hit their facebooks, twitters and reddits and media outlets like Youtube twitch etc, en mass.. anything that sees a lot of customers face time.

Do not be rude or spiteful just be honest and give them poor reviews there.. but you need a lot of people to back you up.

I will add.

What is the point of employing an, as Paul himself calls Chris, a person with years of experience, that plays the game, that is the only person working on balance full time, if he's kept on a leash, by someone that isn't hardly playing the game.

Let the man do his job, I mean he can't make a worse job of what's happening, because surely if he will, then he shouldn't hold the position in the first place

Can He ?

Agreed. Chris, being someone with years of experience and who actually plays MWO daily, is clearly better qualified to make balance changes than Paul, someone who is "too busy" to play. I wonder if Chris is on a short leash, because Paul's ego is afraid of Chris doing a better job at balancing, while still keeping the game fun?

Yeah, Paul needs to step aside and stop micro-managing Chris and let the man do his job.

The better question is still if they have someone doing balance 'full time' why patches spaced months apart contain fairly trivial changes.

I'm still fairly convinced that the metrics PGI uses to determine balance changes are weighted heavily toward the 'average' player due to the sheer mass of possible data, where distinctions between mechs and weapons aren't nearly as clear as they are in the competitive levels.

As strange as it seems, it might be that balance at the top is purposefully left out of whack for the sake of the middle.

Funny you say that because I heard that Paul said that he can't buff LRMs to be good at the top level because the bottom level will be obliterated by them, to paraphrase. I didn't hear what he said himself because I can only listen to sooo much butt kissing and Phil lays it on super THICC.

I've already said in another thread that disappeared that I don't think you can effectively balance from the top down without taking into consideration the middle and the bottom. However I do think you need to weigh the balance MORE at the top than in most other places.

I've long decided that the metrics they're using are hot garbage and don't represent the actual status of things.

For goodness sake I heard Chris said the TBR was still a very high tier mech, while I don't think it is a complete dumpster fire I think it was dethroned long ago.

When the vast majority of your players can't build mechs and can't play FPSs it sets up a poor metric to balance by. There are a lot of players that are worse than me, and I'm not very good.

I say let Chris make the changes, let the community help, TTK be damned, double armor again if we have to. I say don't be afraid to dial back changes, don't be afraid to test server the major changes.

The Unfunning of MWO really began with nerf to jump jets, maybe even further back. The rescale and the engine desync were just giant nails in the coffin.

Yes, they bring people up to 90% of their heat threshold super fast regardless of how many heatsinks the target has.

oh!

hmm....

I was kinda hoping they would do something like make smoke templates, or a firewall where people can't see across to the other side for a set amount of time, or maybe even set a big fire on the ground where people stand in it suffer heat penalties until it burns out.

something, more tactical than point click bang.

The idea of a light mech swoop in and laying a swath of fire and rolling out to force the other team to some move or force mobility.

But, cool beans.
