It was D8, not G8. Sorry.

D8 is not viable. I know it might appear to be such due to the presence of the hard cover with all the buildings scattered about, but you can't exert pressure and map control from there. Just ask yourself... once you get pushed into by the enemy force, where are you going to move to? How many mechs can you get to fire at the same target? You have very narrow lanes (streets here) by which to direct your fire whereas they will be capable of taking one more lane than you can to fire onto the same target, simply by surrounding you on two sides. They will always have effectively double the firepower than you because they can commit twice as many mechs.

A retreat to D8 can be done, but it's mostly a tactic of desperation. You'll pull a win out of that only after the enemy force is already heavily damaged and you believe your marksmen can finish off wounded targets faster and more efficiently than the enemy's can. To start with that tactic is consigning yourself to the grave and I don't even know comp-worthy tactics.

say the entire team did end up camping D8, I'm guessing the title of the thread would have been "Strikes are OP, please nerf" with the body of text being "My team was set up in an area with lots of buildings and we took 20 strikes, Strikes are OP"

I love it when a random pug drop calls some horribly bad strategy.

On the other team of course!

Just a thought, that may or may not hamper in game coordination. There may be a not inconsiderable number of non-English speakers on any given team. Given the percentage of people who actually talk on coms, this could quite often be the issue.

they should still be able to read a minimap though

Gotta explain WHY you wanna do something to convince them to follow you. Like yesterday, for example, conquest on frozen city. Team was starting to walk into the valley, told them to go F7 instead and explained it would let us hold 2 points and overwatch theta from lots of cover. They agreed and followed.

If I had just told them to go F7 without any reason why, maybe they wouldn't have.
