I've been watching a youtuber using sound mods that sounded very awesome to me, especially when using machine guns, but as I don't know what the mod is, I was thinking of using the Battle Enhancement sound mod.

Before doing anything, especially because this is an MMO, I wanted to know if this is a bad thing to do. All I want is a different, heavier sound impact for my weapons.

The following actions are strictly forbidden:
• Modifying any game client files aside from those expressly listed below:
- User.cfg
- Game.cfg
- Attributes.xml
- Actionmaps.xml
- Profile.xml
- Weapongroups.xml
- Changing default save/profile/install locations
  • ‘Injecting’ third-party files that may not directly modify game files.
  • Using a Bot application to carry out gameplay actions without user participation.
  • Engaging in the use of hacks, scripts, or cheats.
  • Discussing the use of hacks, scripts, or cheats.
  • Misrepresenting your use of hacks, scripts, or cheats.
  • Accusing other players of using hacks, scripts, or cheats.
  • Disrupting or threatening the integrity, operation, or security of services.
  • Attempting to defraud the MC, C-Bill, or XP systems.
  • Attempting to misrepresent a situation or defraud Support services.
  • Showing unreleased content that has not already been officially posted or approved.
  • Displaying or discussing the results of altering or tampering with game client files.
  • Displaying or discussing the results of injecting third-party files.
  • Sharing any data not available through normal gameplay or official public release.
  • Exploiting game bugs or mechanics to gain any unfair advantages or benefits, either for yourself, your teammates, or players on the opposing team.
  • Exploiting or manipulating the matchmaking system.
Claiming to use any such exploits, modifications, or cheats for ‘testing’ purposes is not an acceptable excuse. Claiming that the violations took place on your account as a result of another player gaining or being provided access to your account is not an acceptable excuse.

Last I heard they refuse to give a clear answer but no one has been provably banned for doing it.

So eh. (shrug)

Hey wait. It's a pak file. I assume that means it's okay as long as it's weapons only.

This ^^ their enforcement would see a lot of people not being very happy.

Officially it is, probably for legal reasons n such, however as far as I know they don't actually ban people for it as sound mods are pretty harmless (and I think PGI love sounds much as much as the rest of us but they can't officially support them).

Sound mods are used by several streamers and competitive players. PGI is well aware of them and choose to do nothing about them. You won't get banned for them.

Last time this topic came up, I gave an example of what kind of sound mods might be considered cheating (pretty much a, "don't do this, it ain't cool" thing), and got suspended from the forum for it... Because apparently telling you what to avoid if you don't want to be considered to be cheating is encouraging cheating. [redacted]

Modifying any game client files

The grey line comes in that dropping a .pak file into your game folder isn't "modifying" anything. The game engine loads the .pak files in particular order (alphabetical in this case). So it technically operates without modifying any files from the game.

(Looking at you, draiocht.)

Yeah because these guys run them its kinda one of those "you're not supposed to but that does sound nice." thing.

We wouldn`t need sound mods if PGI would let Haven do their sounds. Brilliant mod!
