So, after getting "excessive team damage" several times in a row in games where I'm fairly sure I didn't shoot an ally even once, I have come to the conclusion that the latest patch somehow has started classifying self-inflicted damage (eg gauss explosions) as team damage and towards the penalty system. Kind of annoying that. I'm sitting on a 2 minute timer because I equipped the "wrong weapon".
Confirm? Deny? Call me a heretic? Just sayin.
Anyone one else notice this?

Are you, by any chance, dropping air strikes?

This has not been my observation. I would suggest recording your matches and reviewing them to see how you could have done this damage. OBS is freeware that you can use to livestream or record gameplay. And if you think you have found genuine evidence to back you up, post it to YouTube (accounts are free) and toss us a link to the video. We'd all be VERY interested in it.

EDIT: The cutoff for penalty via massive team damage is around 50 points, maybe higher. You would have to consistently be getting twin Heavy Gauss Rifles critted out.

A simple test would be to drop in an armorless assult mech with multiple gauss rifles, charge the enemy and die. Then observe the results.

Perhaps I misunderstood what you meant by "self-inflicted gauss explosion". I know of no way of accomplishing this other than deliberate overheat.
