Russ talking about Solaris during the interview.
TBH this entire debacle is sad as hell... I've tried to be patient and stay silent. I'm reaching my limit too.

2-4 weeks, so could be just a few weeks yes, or it could be a month... as for Quality control, shouldnt that be done BEFORE you release something?

FP talk of shutdown after Solaris is launched.
Solaris should be tested and glitch free, before, being launched.
So what you are saying is totally... Well, if I say that I'll get another holiday.
Plus what resources right now are needed to keep FP running day to day? None. So that's another derp.

However I'm not really surprised.
PGI Dev #1: "With Solaris coming out we need to do something special to get people engaged. What's something we can do?"
PGI Dev #2: "Hmm, well, we can go with the Ol' Faithful and **** FW over. I mean that's never not funny."
PGI Dev #3: "That's a good idea with a lot of success behind it, but aren't you worried about tapping that well dry? I mean we released it barely half baked, we decided not to introduce the bulk or features originally designed, we promised a bunch of stuff then literally had nobody even check in on it for a year. Then we actually NUKED them, like in matches, NUKED them for almost a year. That was great. We followed that up by removing factions, because now you can't even call it faction warfare with a straight face. Props on that one by the way I wasn't sure how we were *ever* going to shake those die-hard loyalists loose. What else can we do? Just send each and every person who logs I to FW a letter with a picture of us all flipping the bird with the caption "on behalf of PGI, **** You and we hope you die in a fire"? I'm not sure what's left we CAN do."
PGI Dev #2: "Even better. We shut it down. For several weeks, maybe even forevee. Just turn it off and forget about it for a while and say 'well you can go play Solaris now's as though that's not the exact opposite of the game experience that FW is. I'm pretty sure there's laws that prevent us driving to people's homes and pissing in their cereal but this is a close second."
PGI Dev #1: "That's genius. Absolutely genius. Then when we do eventually start it back up we can combine it with a nerf to ISERMLs down damage because they are over performing and buff Clan streaks range by 25%, saying they were always intended as a mid range weapon. That should put a bullet in FWs head once and for all. Now, suggestions on ensuring absolutely everyone hates Solaris?"
The above is satire. I realize that by and large the peeps at PGI are passionate about MWO and want it to be fun and would make FW awesome if they could but it's a little more involved than a couple database updates. I've just been at work forever and having to choke back my sarcastic impulses and this post just got both barrels.
But really. Don't ******* do it. It will turn out poorly.

Before I continue. I am a 12 man FP player , I love FP, I hate Group QP with its tonnage restrictions and tolerate solo QP for events/leveling mechs.
A better reasoning Russ could have used for the shutdown would have been 'were worried servers wont cope with the sudden influx of young OW / CoD / BF / CS:GO kiddies that want to play 1v1 / 2v2 games. And dont want to risk putting them off with the seal clubbing, massive queue time wasteland that FP has become, and will be even worse for the 1st month Solaris is released (EXACTLY THE SAME HAPPENED WHEN SCOUTING MODE WAS ADDED, IT DRASTICALLY REDUCED 12 MAN FP NUMBERS FOR 2+ WEEKS).
I said Civil war was the last chance to get player numbers up enough to save FP/CW, maybe solaris shutting it down then "relaunching it" as Solo or Grouped (with bonus's for playing grouped) with all the new people that a "new" game on steam will draw in could save it. But my hope is running out and ya'll just going to shut this idea down with the usual "population isn't big enough""FP is for hard core groups coz its end game content" bull **** replies which I have invalidated multiple times. But you dont want to change you'd rather just die.
I, like many will be trying Solaris and not playing FP for 1st month, even if they leave FP up, its something new and most people will try something new for a month.

There is no reason to shut CW/FP down, other than diverting the player base to boost numbers. If people choose to sit in queue, then let them choose to do so. *shrug*
