Well, what can you have it do?

Have the countdown reduce to 0?

Even in its current state, it at least gives you a slight idea in advance of how many people are watching their screen and ready to take control, as opposed to tabbed out to Netflix and will join the battle 4 minutes in, after you are already down 3 mechs.

The only button I press less than the READY button is the LOGIN button.

By the time that everyone had a chance to hit it, the counter has already dropped to 10 seconds automatically ... and since some have said that it was different in earlier days: when was that exactly? Because I joined when the game entered open beta and I simply can't remember the button every behaving other than now.

I started playing in early open beta (back when the only assaults were the Atlas, Stalker, and Awesome). First there was only a counter, no Ready button. People complained about waiting around on the timer once everyone was connected. So, the Ready button was added, so that if the teams were done with pre-match banter and such, and everyone was Readied up, it would skip the counter and go straight to the match. People still complained about having to wait for AFKers, so it was changed so that once everyone connected the timer would jump to 10 seconds. The Ready button was left in.

The Ready button still has a mechanical purpose, but it is largely irrelevant. Since you can't bypass the timer until everyone connects, and once that happens it's just a 10 second count down anyway, almost no one bothers to Ready up.

Funny thing is, the ready button actually works in private lobbies. It just doesn't work on public matches.

That's interesting. I wonder why they would work differently.

I thought private lobbies auto ready when you connect? You don't need to click it.
