Yeah one advice. Don't blame your teammates, or the MM, or the game itself for a bad match, if you are rusty from being absent for two years.

Most pertinent changes in the game since June 2016 (re-scale) are the May and July patches from 2017.

First one is skills tree and that is a whole mess of changes that is best summarized as: read the patchnotes than do soome googling to learn more about the skills tree, how to use it, etc.
https://mwomercs.com...15-16-may-2017/

Second one is the so-called Timeline advance that gives us new weapons and tech but not much else in the way of game play.
https://mwomercs.com...26-18-jul-2017/

If you were a CW player...well, lets just say that the more things change the more they stay the same.

Other than all of that know that PGI says the number one goal of their balance efforts is to increase TTK so expect more nerfs to whatever you find to be most effective or lethal in the months to come.

Also Solaris is about to arrive. Listen to the most recent NGNG "production update" with Russ Bullock if you are interested.

Stick with medium mechs as assaults and heavy's have a small fish infestation what if rusty with aim will give you a new *** hole. MG's are the light meta so need a tab more back armor LRM's still **** and only used by potatoes but medium missiles and ATM's are bread and butter of missile boats now. Alpha builds are still meta as are laz vomits, also brawling dead due to engine changes mean torso twisting got nerfed heavily (for some stupid reason.)

Lights still whine about assaults no pushing, assaults whine that lights don't cover their *** and run off mediums and heaviest stay out of that argument as you only loses brain cells. So nothing much has changed. Welcome back

I would likely head into the Battlemechs/Guides section under New Players forum, and look for some builds/discussions on the mechs you own or want to play. You should see some build suggestions as well as a few sample Skill tree layouts that will give you an idea how the mechs are looking these days.

Some new weapons, a new map...maybe two. Lots of new mechs.
Not much else.

And the dominant meta right now is laser vomit.

BJ is not particularly good, but worth playing just to get along with skilltree. Do play trials too and find what class and weapons you like.

IS
Blackjack - is a bit squishy but can bring the dakka in high arm mounts.
Bushwacker - solid chassis, has variants with torso mounted ballistic slots - dual LBX10 or dual RAC5 can be fun.

For more IS ballistic mediums, see:
https://mwomercs.com...stic-medium-is/

CLAM
May I suggest a shadow cat? Fast, agile, has masc and can bring a gauss rifle or other large gun in the arm and legomech-change omnipods to carry ECM and whatever else you need for backup weapons (e.g. a few lasers). Could also run 2x ERPPC or 2x ERLL or 2x HLL or 2x LPL.

For sniping, you might want to try the gauss rifle - charge mechanic takes some getting used to though. Also, Light and Heavy Gauss are IS only.
For burst damage, you might want to try RAC2/RAC5 (IS only) - beware the jam and required facetime though.
Of course, there's also the AC and LBX weapons, but you probaby know thoose already.

For energy weapons, the ER-PPC, PPC (IS only), Heavy PPC (IS only) and Light PPC (IS only) are most suitable for sniping.
If you don't mind the beam time, ER-LL and Heavy Large Lasers (clam only) can be used too.

You would need double heat sinks, endo steel structure and maybe an LFE engine, then you could run a better build on that one:

Bushwacker X1 for brawling, Hunstman B or P for pocking, ShadowHawk 2H or 5M for pocking.

Go to your inventory tab to sell mechs. Though I wouldn't sell it unless your out of mechbay spots. They don't sell for much alone anyway. Equipment is always worth keeping unless you've got way too many of the same thing.

One small bit of advice that kind of goes without saying in all things not just this game..

If at first you don't succeed, try and try again. Dont be put off by a bad match or two, it takes time and patience to learn each and every mech.

Which one is that?

Many old-ish mechs are quite good now due to newtech, so maybe you don't want to sell it when you try it.

Seriously, fellow mechwarrior is away for ~1,5 Years and ask for advice what is good NOW and you give him link to a Year 2015 thread that someone necroed about same time he had to stop playing... Posted Image

Unfortunably, that's the most up to date information on ballistic mediums. Clans do not even have a similar thread.
Also, search function on the forums only works every once in a while Posted Image

Edit:
Could have thrown in the faction play training thread:
https://mwomercs.com...-play-training/
- but that is a giant load of information to sift through

Also I feel like just dropping a list like
https://docs.google....#gid=1496649597
without additional info on how a build works is not very helpfull for returning players.
