Apparently this game has been out for a while but it only came into my attention recently (thanks google's algorithm!).

The seemingly unlimited customization attracts me the most but it also has other interesting things which could relate to MWO or future FPS BT games, such as:
  • delayed convergence (!)
  • big, beautiful open map
  • most often, it doesn't devolve into a peek a boo situation as far as I can tell
The last one is interesting and I don't really know why a shooter game makes people play peek a boo or not.

Maybe some of you who play the game could fill in or comment on what a future FPS BT game could learn from it because its combat mechanics look interesting.

Played it for a while, the grinding become insane after a while and become pay to build hi-tech stuff. But the balance is interesting with some kind of battle-value and bot to fill empty place. It's not pay to win but more pay to build cool stuff.

I played this for a few months recently, it has some merits for sure and the first few weeks were a lot of fun.

If you have experience in MWO then the competition in that game will seem like potato seedlings, not even full potatos they are that bad at positioning. (coming from me!!)

That being said it loses its appeal quite fast, the level and scale of grind is just too much. Theres actually really not a lot to do once you have played for a little while and the matches have very little in the way of tactics, strats or teamwork. Perhaps it could be fun with groups but as a solo player I lost interest quite fast.

I would say try it out though as the builds and customisations are really neat. I made a "high mount" thought it would be op and it is against noobs but I soon learnt that low profile was probably much better.

MWO > Crossout though im afraid to say.

In the lower tiers, get good at aiming and twin cannons is just too good Posted Image especially when you get an ammo box too.

I played it for a few weeks. But it became very clear the grinding was exponentially worse than MWO. They don't just give you a currency. You got to do faction rep grinds. I had enough of that in my MMO days. At least with MWO I just need c-bills and I can get whatever mech, weapon, or equipment I want. People cry about MWO's grind. But there are exponentially way worse Free to Play models out there.

The matchmaking look interesting, you will not be against incredible tech if you have a baseline truck. It's each team have a more or less equal battle value. Seal clubbing exist but you will not be in a trashcan against a battlecruiser.

Is this on steam?

Looks quite fun and more casual fun.

Fun game, but the grind is the sort that is so excessive that it appears to have been added simply to justify the devs saying "well, you CAN technically get everything without paying! you'll need to play until the known heat death of the universe though"

Been playing it for a few months.

Balance has gotten alot better now, before people would take really high powered weapons on frame builds and straight up wreck all low PS players, still happens from time to time but it's alot rarer now.

The grind is still real though, takes forever to get decent gear without spending money, so sell sell sell all scrap, fuel, extra unneeded weapons and gear.

I like playing Crossout when MWO is in "searcing" or "loading" screens. It's a nice game if you like it. The best weapon in the game can take 6-12 months of playing.

If you're looking for alternatives to MWO might look at this to. Doesn't look as good but it's something different and free, plus I think Crossout is $30 on Steam.

Crossout is actually free, but the grind is real.

This game is made by a subdivision of the people who made this. So they have a good game engine and they know what they are doing.

But typical of War Thunder, Crossout gets grindy at high levels. Which is a typical design choice for Russian F2P PvP games.

Its for an Android or for an iPhone, not a PC. That's why it looks the way it is.

But War Robots holds important lessons in game design, a good case in finding out why it doesn't have NASCAR, murderballs, peek and boos. Its also crazy fun, which is also why its one of the truly successful mobile games in the market.

If you are a PC player only, you can find it on Facebook Gameroom, or you have to use an Android simulator. You won't find it in Steam, other than its VR demo.
