I want a royal rumble type of Solaris game mode where 8 or 12 mechs fight it out till one emerges the victor

As do i, but what we expected it to be is quite far different to what we're actually getting unfortunately. Doesn't look to change either at least for the first year.

Seeing how Battle Royale type of games are picking up steam (pun intended), I think PGI will consider something like that in the far future.

Would require an enormous map though, dev time would be giving up 9 regular maps. Takes 3 years each at current rates :)

I think that PGI have repeatedly said that the game code was written with the assumption of always having two sides in a battle. Side A and side B. I thought they said that they cant have FFA`s because of code limitations.

I would love a FFA. I think FFA would be the thing that gets everyone interested in Solaris, sort of like destruction derby but for mechs.

Even a 4v4 FFA would be great. Hope they manage to implement that somehow.

Primarily because they are not good at coding, which still seems so odd because they are developing software for computers - being at least decent at the primary skill for that should be a requirement. Going to work sober would probably also help, both seem to be lost causes at the leadership level.

There is friendly fire already, so I do not see how it is that difficult to implement. But then, coding is not PGI's specialty so I guess we are stuck with what we have.

They've stated FFA is never going to happen. The entire game/engine has been hard coded around a team vs team matchup. :-/

The thing is that that's just an excuse for laziness, the real trouble is that they either _won't_ make those changes because it would be difficult, that they _can't_ make those changes because they simply don't have any skilled developers in their team, or that the guys in charge are obstinate and don't listen to customers.

To say that something like FFA is impossible to code in software is BS of the biggest order.

Just remember, for ever pilot beyond 2x2, that compounds the calculations by the game engine.... Add HD graphics and that compounding can and will reduce speed.... 1x1/2x2 is for simplicity and cost savings.... FFA or 4x8, four teams of 8 mechs for a grand melee is about impossible for PGI....

FFA would require PGI to figure out how to have more than 2 teams

which apparently they cant do :P

There is a basic problem with the modified version of the old cryengine they used to set up MWO.
So we will probably see a complete port of MWO to a new engine than a free for all mode on this one...

Insulting PGI in a thread where you are asking for something from them is probably not the wisest course of action.

I would love FFA and I doubt coding is an issue; you can just have the matchmaker fill a single "team", leave the other "team" at zero, and have spaced out spawn points.

I am hopeful that with the new Battle Royale games gaining popularity that PGI will implement this at some point. The sooner the better!
