PGI didn't force you to play trial mechs. You could have bought those chassis and then tweaked them out before playing.

Or you can just not play the event at all.

This will be my MWO future if events continue in this direction.. That said this is the first PGI event i've actively hated and wished i was dead while doing...

Or you can run the mechs you like, farm those idiots that are running MG King Crab for the event, and get money, while boosting your stats.

Seriously, just ignore mechs you don't own. Running in trial mechs is hardcore variation of self torturing.

Pretty much this.
I don't play fp very much but running the mechs I like is netting me c-bills a lot faster than doing the actual event. I did a few, namely the Orion IIC and Arctic Cheetah because I wanted to see what the chassis were like to drive. Ended up purchasing both.
Good hunting,

You could earn more cbills in the same amount of time by playing something less crap.
The only real reasons to do the event is to get the free camo pattern, which you have to own the mech to use.

The only challenge I've completed so far is the Griffin one; I bought a Catapult as well but I didn't bother with the event for it, and I own Jenners and Mist Lynxes but don't care about patterns so I didn't even drop in one of those during the event.
For phase two I'll do the Blackjack challenge even though I already have a couple patterns for it (I like my Blackjack BJ-1 and Arrow) and I might do the Stormcrow, but I don't think I'll do the King Crab. I might be the only person who owns over 100 mechs that doesn't own a Timber Wolf so I might buy one of those, but I may or may not do the event if I buy one.

Did you know that if you spend 10 million C-bills to make 1 million C-bills you're not very good at math?

1 million isn't, but 16 million is when you have a new account without many mechs.

Because I don't do things randomly without a reason. I still need a cataphract to finish off my drop deck.

The real bonus of the event was the camos. And here's a question: Why are you running trials for camos for Mechs you dont own?
That being said, yes, the trials really need to be looked at. There are some problems here

Why does everyone keep pretending 16 million is 1 million? Essentially getting a free annihilator is a pretty good reward when you don't have a big mech collection yet. [redacted] First of all, if I wasn't supposed to use the trials then why did they specifically use the exact mechs in the trial rotation for the event twice in a row? Secondly, the trial mechs being extremely suicidal is a problem in a game that already has new player retention problems. These things are a new player's first impression of the game. They're absolutely inexcusable.

This is probably the only time I will ever be accussed of White Knighting for PGI. What a novel experience

And *some* of the trial mechs weren't terrible, even without skills. The Highlander IIC is actually a solid build for farming the KMDDs, for example, so it was a pretty decent way to get an extra mil C-bills.
Of course, several trial mechs have glaring issues, like the XL Zeus build is super squishy, or the PPC Panther as mentioned above.
The reason people keep saying "it's only a million" is because in the time it takes you to farm KMDDS with a bad trial mech, you could have earned that extra million playing a good build on a non-trial mech.
