Not even remotely true.
The events are always for you guys not for us. We don't need special events to gain performance data on 'Mechs. And if anything, the events distorts the data we do get making it less then useful anytime standard player behavior is artificially modified.
Nor is it helpful for figuring out Solaris divisions given you can't really take much from a 12v12 quickplay performance and believe it to have any correlation with a 1v1 / 2v2 mode with 4/5 of the maps not even in the game at the moment.

The best gameplay was years ago. You got your coming and leaving order reversed. I’m sorry.
The Shadowcat was a fun ride for long time. If you would have actually cared about this IP you would have picked one up in its pre-nerf heyday and we would’t be having this conversation.
Interesting take - so if I'm interpreting this correctly, one does not care about the 'MechWarrior' IP unless they payed into the play2play grindfest known as MWO early on.
I've done all the caring I can for this IP and that's why I've stayed away from this game for years now since in my eyes the real MechWarrior as a franchise is stagnant with no innovation (effectively dead). I have no more care's to give, my money was wasted anyways... my bad really for not understanding the cancer of f2p back in those days. Never did I ever dream in those days of the original IP would devolve from a MechWarrior Sandbox based on purest form of fun and not grinding to the strange imitation of MW that it is today (with lootboxes).

I have several of the mechs for the event and did it in trials anyway just to see how they were, and it was very much like pulling teeth for most of them.

That aside, at the tier I'm at, I'm mostly seeing meta mechs running meta builds - the few non-meta chassis showing up don't do anything to make it feel like there's an event going on.

So much this.
I had decided not to play during the event but had a new Zeus-9S I'd purchased sitting there that I'd been meaning to grind skills on, waiting to get played. My 9S is fully skilled now, but that was seriously some of the worst play from more people than I've ever seen or experienced in MWO since I started ~2(?) years ago.
The part that really baked my noodle is that there is no MC, mechs, or anything like that in the rewards, just a mediocre amount of c-bills and clown-car camo skins. Just, wow. If I was a new player and didn't understand it's not quite this bad all the time, I'd find another game to play. That 9S skill-up grind was absolute torture, but I guess I apparently have a bit of a masochistic streak.

Gosh, If what I wanted was granted:
we'd have reverted all nerf's back to those mech and weapons configurations that were the most lethal, agile and effective. I'd have added in the ATM/ARROW/Thunderbolt (do I have that one right?) and the Longbow mech platform and enhanced the cost/tonnage of indirect fire and required TC's/TAGs/NARCs/ARETEMIS tie-ins on a graduating scale so that IDF effectiveness increases if multiple precision enhancing tools are used. Dispersion for LOS weapons would have been a fast discussion as well as alpha heat and energy limits.... Gos, FP would be the conquest of IS/Clan/Mercenary space. There'd be no "fair" and there certainly wouldn't be "balance" between the IS or Clan.... IS would always have more that does less and Clan would always have much better stuff but in limited numbers and you'd have to "bid" to drop in FP.....
Oh yes, I'd go the opposite way and then, we'd see who is or is not compotent in using terrain, cover and concealment, strategy, tactics, CAS, strikes and defined roles to win. Scouts would achieve by not being seen and actually capturing strategic sites or objectives. Forward observers would be critical to IDF. IDF would be the King of the Battlefield but, only as good as the FO's and team mates enable them to be. get TAG'd or NARC'd withing effective range and you're going to get eaten alive. Flankers and interdiction mechs making your flanks a misery and then, the big boys, those very few who are called in to go toe to toe and clear out enemy infestations.... Oh yes, we'd go the other way. And, there would be some serious salty tears but teams, even with just random individuals, would be the only way to accomplish most goals and objectives....

Because of the skill-tree, There is no even ground even with two identical mechs.
WIthout the skill tree, you might have a chance with an awesome pilot.
But generally, the other identical mech has a pretty good advantage, just because of having access to the skilltree.
The only way they should have gone about this, is to only allow Trial mechs. No others, no changes in weapons, no different variants.
Just Trials vs Trials, and see what people think.

KMDDs or Kills for one part and Kill Assists for another. That would have made this event FUN.
I pick a couple of Mechs or Omnimechs and buy one to do events like this if I don't already have them. Trial Mechs SUX so bad.
