It's Battletech. Visuals over practicality. If you don't like it, you're not gonna have a good time very often here.

I would agree, but that original art is just so phenomenally bad. And the Clanners want to return to the Star League that designed this abomination? No thank you.

The Nightstar is known for it's stunning good looks, the tremendous punishment it can take, and inability to hurt a fly

Almost all of the designs PGI has produced are pretty faithful to the original art.
And really, if you were surprised by the arms, that's on you. The original art had wide arms. The concept art had wide arms. The count down pictures had wide arms (Though the arms actually were changed from the count down stuff). If you payed money for this any stage of the process and were surprised, that's not PGI's fault.

Except when it's hilarious.
To wit:

The Nightstar's TRO art may be terrible, but at least it looks like a 'Mech and not some kind of wacky cyborg chocobo. The art and modeling for 'Mechs in MWO, except in a tiny handful of cases, is head and shoulders (and torso, and legs, and the next six or seven meters underground beneath that) above anything you'll find in the TROs.

A beautiful, nearly perfect symmetrical design. And then for some reason, that left gun mount decides get lazy and blow up my OCD.

High mounted dual gauss on actuated arms with lasers and structure buffs. You aim and fire, your target is already half dead unless you missed.
