Dear PGI,
I've been around since closed beta. In those years I have run units, I did competitive play, I helped new players learn the ropes and I even organized events myself.
I also took a break every now and then, which is probably the reason I still enjoy MWO as much as I do.
I'm usually not one to complain either, most of the time I had a blast stomping Mechs and trying to defend the inner sphere against ruthless space fascists. And I'm really, REALLY looking forward to Solaris 7.
But today I tried to play scouting mode for the lucky charms event and I ******* hated it.
Its not the balance issues, in an tabletop adaptation you're bound to have some of those and compared to what I know from MW4 the balance is okay(ish).
Its the way you punish players that want to play the actual gamemode. Its always the same boring 4v4 bumrush as quickly into the brawl as you can crap. Simply because you never get the matchscore you need for the event if you play the mode as a scout should play it.
The way the rewards are designed you are forcing the players to go group up and brawl it out instead of trying out different approaches to solve the issue of collecting intel.
In short: Your reward system is ****, as it focuses too much on kills, and way too little on completing the objective. Scouting isn't the only mode that suffers from this, but its the mode where the issue is the most condensed. The entire mode is boring as hell, you should call it 4v4 skirmish and get rid of the nodes, that would do it justice.
And to make things worse, the best mode in the game is faction play conquest, which I get to play every couple of weeks at best.
I really hope you don't **** up Solaris ...

Why I Hate Scouting Mode!

Yep. Regardless of the game mode, incentive is always given to damage, which is why we have what we have.
Like you, having been in this since beta, I don't see this aspect of the game ever changing.
I do understand where you are coming from. However, I recommend you just drink the Koolaid like the rest of us and shoot stuff. It's far less frustrating. Maybe MW5 will be better/different.....

I understand what your saying
scouting was fine when it first started because PGI hadn't figured out how to screw it up
there where more then one way to win
1) beacon denial
2) kill enemy mechs
3) gather more beacons
4) make it to the drop ship
after awhile you just get tired of the try hards saying group up and brawl
you just give up and rush into the high alpha Clan Mechs
Solaris 7 will be great the first few days (unless your the type that cries a lot)
then PGI's computers will kick in with there ham fisted way of balancing the game
lets face it balancing this game is like trying to balance a Mig 29 against an F86
hats off to PGI for even trying and thank goodness the kids are to dumb to see reality
IMHO

Dear Pilot;
It already is. You think 4v4 is boring bumrush to brawl, what do you think 1v1 and 2v2 will be? A faster, more boring, bumrush to brawl.
I will be a club fest. Then it will be a salty tear fest. After a week of it, the sh*t with stink to much and by the end of second week participation will drop. It will continue through the third with posts on how to 'fix' it. By the end of the fourth week the 'newness' will have worn off, same boring meta mech duels, and people will be back to normal queues wondering of the design/implementaion cost of S7 was worth it.
