Yep and thats the good thing to me, both my Clan and IS mechs are usable now in different ways, my IS mechs are soooo much simpler to use due to less weapons, less heat, one tap dakka etc.
where as my clan ones require a slight amount of thought, higher heat, longer burns, sucky dakka.
I am not complaining though, each side has its stand outs, the Battlemaster for IS is in my opinion the best sniper mech in the game, with the Marauder IIC being the best assault, swings and roundabouts.
I run my clan mechs typically with one or even two ERML less than what the laser vomit meta would demand. Makes em all a lot easier for me to control the heat, plus I still end up dropping more damage down range than I can in a corresponding IS build of similar weight. So I still consider Clans to have the dominant advantage even with my less than meta builds.
But in terms of viable variety I think for my style of play (mid to short range brawl) IS is more fun and though not per se "better" than clan, it is more diverse and certainly competitive. My clan mechs have less variety, but between ATMs and laser vomit and gauss vomit, are still overall far more lethal ton for ton. Exceptions of course exist (Assassin vs Viper for example), but over all if I need a win, I still go Clan in nearly all weight classes.
But that is totally just my subjective opinion. I think provocative labels like "easy mode" as applied to one whole side of the tech or the other just ignore the reality of the exceptions, and make all of us point there as a means to reinforce our biases (Assassin OP! SEE IS is easy mode! Deathstrike can drop nearly a 100 point alpha! SEE! Clan is easy mode!). There is no "easy mode" side; both have their share of trash and each has variants that are over performing relative to those nearby in weight.
