faction play is down for anyone not in the stated event factions. sigh why am i not surprised?

Are you sure? Even people doing the event can only get to matches going through the Event Page. Go to the event page, click on 'Go To' at the bottom. Can you join from there?

Yeah seems the only way to get matches is through event page.

tried to get a match and even joined one group of people in one of the two factions but i could not ready. so yeah faction is broken and normal faction cannot be done.

Will I be able to keep my rank when I rejoin Marik if I quit them temporarily to participate in the event?

Yup.

Since you have no penalty for switching faction, just switch to Steiner or Davion.
