Can't wait to feed my Fafnirs to the fish... I'm starting to think PGI doesn't want to "balance" the PIR because it's their Totem Mech. meh

Lol yeah. To be fair though, Assaults are supposed to be slow, and lights are supposed to be fast, countering them.

Now piranhas beating other lights by a mile, now that's the issue.

Well the fish are fairly easy to kill with a solid hit but their dps is a bit much.

The problem isn't so much with the Piranha as it is with the way crits work. All the Piranha did was put a spotlight on a pre-existing issue. Whether you're being hit by two MGs or twelve, the second the location is open, all the equipment in it is toast shortly thereafter regardless of remaining HP. Which is also why structure quirks are useless unless you're deadsiding. When you're making that many crit rolls every second, it's a certainty rather than a chance that you're going to deal extra damage and strip components.

Crit chance needs to be inversely proportional to structure HP- the more you have remaining, the lower the crit chance is. It should not just be 0 crit chance until armor is depleted, then jump to its maximum value immediately. That way, there's actually some chance that you won't lose all of the equipment in a damaged section the instant your armor's gone even if 1/3-1/2 of its raw HP still remains.

If your Fafnir is nowhere near your team, cannot put its back into a wall, and you can't shoot the Light mech harassing you because it's moving too fast, that's all on you. It's the price you pay for having the biggest, slowest, most heavily armored and armed mech in the game.

The Fafnir will at least be able to get it's top speed up higher than Little Orphan Anni dragging itself desperately along in the rear while the lights close in for the kill. The question will be whether it's actually better to ditch it's signature HGauss to avoid a bad case of bomb torso.

On the other hand, twin HGauss will delete a light on impact, or at least enough of it to slow it down that the second shot will. And the Fatnir is made for goosing.

The Piranha is a 50/50 matchup with the Mist Lynx. And gets beaten by the Jenner when given a canyon wall.

Get yourself a few H gauss and apply damage directly into a fishes CT and get back to me in the morning. Should they be attacking from the rear you have teammates what should be behind you if are in that weight class if not then think very carefully about your life decisions what got you in that situation.

It's actually already better than it is in TT.

I'll just describe the worst part in three words: Through armor critical.

Oh, and none of this "equipment health" stuff. You get crit, equipment go bye-bye, ammo go boom, and no stuff that should be crittable in MWO that actually is "no effect", like engines and gyros or sensors or actuators or shoulder/hips.

Getting your gear ripped up with minimal odds of ammo explosion is gentle spring rain compared to what an actual crit-storm SHOULD be doing to your giant robot.

Guess we need to bring the other lights up to the piranha's level then so we light pilots can have more than 2 or 3 choices to actually pilot that won't be blown to smitherines.

While it's true that a number of lights need greater quirkage, that doesn't mean we should be using the Piranha's 24.0 anti-structure DPS as the baseline.

Just ticked off... the majority of these people have no idea how hard it is to play a light to any potential. They honestly do not care about balance or what not... they just want more tonnage to = better mech.

Considering the modern light of choice is going to at least try to deliver a decent number of MGs, it's still silly how IS ones are compared to Clan ones.

Not that the Clan ones need nerfing. The IS ones need to get up to their standard. An IS Locust packing 2 tons of MGs should be hitting like a Clan light with 2 tons of MGs.

The list of good Lights at the moment is actually pretty varied for pub queue. The Piranha, Mist Lynx, and Wolfhound at the top, followed closely by Javelins, Cheetah, Urbanmechs, and Jenner. And the Commando, Osiris, Adder, and Spider put up a good showing too.

It's really not the case that Piranhas are the only good Light mech. Not anywhere remotely close to the domination the Cheetah, Firestarter, and Jenners enjoyed in their heydays.

Exactly. I'd rather have Piranhas nerfed. At least just -10% MG ROF for ****'s sake.

And when it doesn't run on canyon wall?

No, it's a 50/50 matchup against the Mist Lynx in most situations. When given a Canyon wall, it's the Jenner that wins at ~70% of the time. The Jenner loses ~60% of the time on more flat ground.

Exactly, no canyon wall, jenner loses 60% of the time.

There's also the performance of other lights versus non-lights. e.g. Mist Lynx vs Direwolf and Piranha vs Direwolf. That sort of thing.
