Save the $40, save up another $40-$60 and buy either a refurb or new GT 1030. At least it's made within the last 2 years.
PS: Don't build potato's.

I did check before I posted, and through microcenter.com you could get a GT 1030 for $100. Less if your willing to go re-furb.
Those are gone. But New EGG has a Re-furb RX 460 2GB OC MSI Card for less than $120... And I know those are decent "I need a cheap card in a pinch, like on the way home from work so I can get online and contribute to my blah blah blah tonight".
AKA, currently sitting in a box in the back of a desk drawer.

I don't think 550 TI offers anything over 650 expect higher electric bill, IF that PSU could support it. Won't have the same problem with 650.

ok, then take that $20 or $40(if he buys both) and flush them down the toilet. Thats the equivalence of spending money on those cards to "upgrade" a system.
I understand that not everyone can just go out and dump money into a system. Believe me, I know. I currently end up with anything from $20 to -$20 a week in non-expenditure cash...
But basing upgrades off a extinct system is a bad idea. it's throwing money at a obsolete platform to make it less cheap but still obsolete.
If i'm using these specs:
Socket FM1 mobo(unknown make/model)
AMD A6 3670K APU
8G DDR3(unknown speed, Potatoe doesn't count)
430W PS (unknown m/m)
Unknown Case
I'm starting with a new PS or case. Unless that's a new(er) 430W + from something like thermaltake/coolermaster/powerspec your not getting far on that old PS you ripped out of your dell workstation.
OP, I understand your looking for better performance, but your wasting money. Even upgrading things that are there isn't likely to be worthwhile in the short, much less long run.
Know this though, alot of things you have on that old rig probably WONT make it over to a newer system.

Speaking of which this is a relevant thread after you build it as it will allow for smoother gameplay.

As to the choices you gave both are about the same level of performance so get the one with more memory.

With the 550 TI, I did get 30-40 fps most of the time so it was adequate but I also had a quad core AMD Phenom 3.5 GHz processor. So you can do it, but I'd recommend getting something newer for sure as that card is at the end of its life.
This was with most graphics settings on low btw.
