I've loved the Awesome for a long time, but it's status in MWO has... fluctuated to say the least. For a while it was one of the more popular Assault class 'Mechs, but it quickly gave way to much more efficient models.
Well, the introduction of the new tech really helps revitalize older designs like the Awesome.
Featured here is an awesome with a L300 engine, 2 HPPCs, 2LPPCs, and 1 ERML. Now this might drive some of you OCD people a little nutty, but don't fire the HPPCs together, instead fire 1 HPPC and 1 LPPC together for a 20 pt strike and alternate. The amount of damage this thing can put out is nuts. Even with hardware issues and lag I still almost hit 1,000 damage:

HPPC+LPPC = same damage and 0.5 more heat than 2xPPC for same number of crits and 1T less. Useful to know!
This is what I'm currently using on my 8Q: https://mwo.smurfy-n...ab31db640152c74
Might look odd until you think about PPC velocity. If my math is correct, with the TCVIII and velocity nodes in the skill tree my PPC bolts travel at 2070m/s - making them really accurate at hitting designated targets at almost any range.

The downside to using HPPC + LPPC instead of 2x PPC is that the cooldown of the HPPC is 5 instead of 4. So you're trading 1 second of cooldown time for 1 ton. Debatable if that's worth it, but it's not just a straight up better option.

Very good point, but neither 2xLPPC+2xHPPC nor 4xPPC builds have the heat management to sustain fire for long anyway.

I stick with twin HPPCs and a snubbie in the arm, with an ER laser in the head to get some quick kill assist points. It's very brutal.
It'll have to do until we get the AWS-9Q. A PPC in each arm and side torso with ECM in the center torso. It's my favorite Awesome to play on tabletop
