Don't mean to beat the dead horse, but someone in-game said in an off-hand comment recently that they were gonna rework the hitboxes in the near future. Now the chances of this are pretty much zero, but how would the nature of the game change if each mech had it's own unique hitbox profiles?
What I mean by this is units like the Timberwolf or the Warhammer having separate hitboxes and armor values for their missile racks in addition to their side torsos.
I was also wondering because recently I had a chance to go to a battlepod arcade in my local area and play some actual battletech in the cockpit, and the mechs each had unique hitboxes instead of the usual CT/RT/LT/etc. that we currently have in MWO.

Effect Of Custom Hitboxes On Mwo?

Russ said nothing in that regards. I'm just gonna wait and see.

Oh okay. But if it was implemented, how would the game change? Would it change for better or worse in your opinion? Would some mechs become more viable? Would some mechs be too strong?

They would have to assign each section it's own armor value. And that would mean more weight given over to armoring those sections.
They toyed with the notion of missile launchers counting as separate hitboxes with the Timberwolf. But haven't entertained the idea since.
I think it might make things better for mechs with big missile boxes. It would allow more damage to spread and destruction of them would still keep the mech in the fight. But I don't think they'll implement them now.

What about splitting the ST armor between the missile racks and the actual sides?
I think the TBR has 60-70 armor on its side torsos. Maybe put 10 of those points onto the missile racks and have a smaller but more lightly armored side torso? That way you have a 60-50/10 split between the missile rack and the side torsos.

I think the best way to fix the missile box problem is to split all torso components into upper and lower torsos. Losing the upper ST loses you the arm but preserves the XL and Light engine component, while losing the lower breaks the engine but preserves the arm.
It would increase TTK, which is a nice bonus.
